The invention relates to the use of subfluorinated carbon nano-objects as an electrode material of primary lithium batteries, the electrode obtained by that use and a lithium battery comprising such an electrode. The subfluorinated carbon nano-objects used in the invention have a central part made of nonfluorinated carbon and a peripheral part made of fluorinated carbon of formula CFwhere x represents the F/C atomic ratio, which is such that 0.25&#x3c;x&#x3c;1.1 and whereof the spectrumF MAS RMN has a single peak between &#x2212;150 and &#x2212;190 ppm/CFCl(outside of rotation bands). The invention applies to the field of storing and retrieving energy, in particular.

Use of subfluorinated carbon nano-objects as an electrode material of primary lithium batteries with strong capabilities

The invention relates to the use of carbon nanomaterials as a filtration material pervious to nitrogen dioxide and impervious to ozone. The invention also relates to the use of carbon nanomaterials having a specific surface, measured by the BET method, of 15 to 40 m/g inclusive and a form factor, equal to the ratio (highest dimension/lowest dimension) of the nanomaterial, of 5 to 250 inclusive, as material for filtering a gas mixture containing nitrogen dioxide and ozone, being pervious to the nitrogen dioxide and impervious to the ozone. The invention can be used in the field of air pollution.

Subfluorinated carbonaceous materials obtained through direct fluorination of graphite or coke particles are provided. One set of subfluorinated carbonaceous materials has an average chemical composition CFin which 0.63&#x3c;x&#x2266;0.95, 0.66&#x3c;x&#x2266;0.95 or 0.7&#x3c;x&#x2266;0.95. The subfluorinated carbonaceous materials are capable of electrochemical performance superior to commercial CF at relatively high rates of discharge.

Electrochemistry of carbon subfluorides

The invention provides fluorinated multi-layered carbon nanomaterials and methods for their production. In one aspect of the invention, the carbon nanomaterials are partially fluorinated and retain some unreacted carbon. The invention also provides electrodes and electrochemical devices incorporating the fluorinated carbon nanomaterials of the invention. In one aspect of the invention, the electrochemical has a first electrode including the at least partially fluorinated carbon materials of the invention and a second electrode including a source of lithium ions.

Fluorination of multi-layered carbon nanomaterials

Subfluorinated graphite fluorides of formula CFwherein CFis in the range of 0.06 to 0.63, e.g., 0.10 to 0.46, are used as electrode materials in electrochemical devices that convert chemical energy to electrical current, e.g., batteries. The invention additionally provides methods of manufacturing electrodes with the subfluorinated graphite fluorides, as well as primary and secondary batteries containing such electrodes.
