Systems and methods for preserving a decoupling capacitor's charge during low power operation of a logic circuit. An electronic circuit may include: a main voltage regulator coupled to a supply voltage terminal and configured to apply a first regulated voltage across a capacitor coupled in parallel with a logic circuit; a low power regulator coupled to the supply voltage terminal and configured to apply a second regulated voltage across the logic circuit; and a control circuit coupled to the low power regulator. The control circuit may be configured to: during a first mode of operation, allow the main voltage regulator to apply the first regulated voltage to the logic circuit, and, during a second mode of operation, allow the low power regulator to apply the second regulated voltage to the logic circuit and decouple the capacitor from the logic circuit while the low power regulator applies the second regulator voltage.

Preserving a decoupling capacitor's charge during low power operation of a logic circuit

An integrated circuit including a comparator having a first input to receive a reference voltage, a second input, and an output to provide an under-voltage indicator. Sense points are configured to provide a plurality of sense point voltages, each sense point providing a corresponding sense point voltage of the plurality of sense point voltages; and a minimum voltage tracking circuit configured to receive the plurality of sense point voltages and provide an output voltage which tracks whichever sense point voltage of the plurality of sense point voltages is currently a minimum sense point voltage. The comparator receives the output voltage at the second input and asserts the under-voltage indicator when the output voltage is below the reference voltage.

Circuits and methods for tracking minimum voltage at multiple sense points

A temperature compensated, auto tunable, frequency locked loop oscillator includes, in one embodiment, an oscillator configured to generate a clock-signal with a frequency fclk based on a control voltage vc, and a frequency-to-voltage (f/v) converter coupled to the oscillator, which is configured to generate a first voltage vfb with a magnitude based on frequency fclk. A controller is also included and coupled between the oscillator and the f/v converter. The controller is configured to control the magnitude of the control voltage vc based on the first voltage vfb.

Temperature compensated auto tunable frequency locked loop oscillator

An n-well voltage switching circuit () and methodology are disclosed for generating a maximum bias voltage (V) at the output voltage node with cross-coupled PMOS switching transistors () connected to a voltage supply remapping circuit () which receives first and second power supplies (V, V) and generates first and second gate driving signals (G, G), wherein the first and second gate driving signals are connected, respectively, to the gates of the first and second cross-coupled PMOS transistors (P, P) to pull a gate for one of the cross-coupled PMOS transistors to ground so that the higher of the first and second power supplies is coupled to the output voltage node over one of the first and second cross-coupled PMOS transistors, thereby generating a maximum bias voltage at the output voltage node.

Active N-well switching circuit for power switches

A methodology and apparatus are disclosed for providing standby power during standby mode by applying a low frequency sampling clock signal to first and second comparators which are connected to compare an output voltage generated at an external capacitor to, respectively, a first higher voltage threshold and a second lower voltage threshold, where the first comparator generates an enable signal in response to the output voltage reaching the first higher voltage threshold for use in activating one or more switched regulator circuits to pump up the output voltage at the external capacitor to exceed the first higher voltage threshold, and where the second comparator generates an undervoltage signal in response to the output voltage reaching the second lower voltage threshold for use in reactivating the main regulator to pump up the output voltage at the external capacitor to exceed the first higher voltage threshold.

Reducing SRAM leakage using scalable switched capacitor regulators

Multi-sense point voltage regulator systems are provided for usage in conjunction with power-regulated devices, such as system-on-chip and microcontroller unit devices. In embodiments, the multi-sense point voltage regulator system includes a multiplexer selector circuit and a voltage regulator. The multiplexer selector circuit is configured to: (i) monitor a local voltages at multiple sense points within an integrated circuit (IC) die circuit structure; and (ii) generate a feedback voltage indicative of a lowest one of the monitored local voltages. The voltage regulator is configured to generate a regulated power supply output voltage as a function of a differential between the feedback voltage and the reference voltage, with the regulated power supply output voltage provided to the IC die circuit structure to drive operation thereof.

Multi-sense point voltage regulator systems and power-regulated devices containing the same

A power supply switching circuit () and methodology are disclosed for connecting the greater of first and second power supplies (V, V) to an output voltage node (V) with a comparator (), active power supply switching circuit (), gate driver circuit (), and switching array (SW-SW) to generate control signals for a pair of PMOS power switches (MP, MP) by remapping first and second voltage supplies (V, V) to bias the n-wells of the PMOS power switches while simultaneously driving the gate terminals of the PMOS power switches with the gate driver circuit () only in response to a comparator activation signal by generating overlapping phase signals (PHI_, PHI_) which controls timing of first and second power supply selection signals so that a ground voltage is supplied as the first power supply selection signal only after the maximum bias voltage is supplied as the second power supply selection signal.

Maximum voltage selector for power management applications

Power supply is facilitated. In accordance with one or more embodiments, a power regulator circuit includes first and second regulators and a controller for controlling operation of the power regulator circuit in standby and normal operational modes. The first and second regulators respectively provide regulated power at main and standby power levels, the standby power level being lower than the main power level. For the standby mode, the controller operates the second regulator for supplying power to an integrated circuit at the standby power level. For transitioning to the normal mode, the controller turns the first regulator on while continuing to operate the second regulator for supplying power to the integrated circuit during a start-up period. After a start-up period (e.g., when the first regulator is up to full power), the controller operates the first regulator for supplying power for operating the processor in a high-frequency mode.

Circuit and method for powering an integrated circuit having first and second power regulators respectively configured and arranged to provide regulated power at main and standby power levels

Methods, devices and circuits are provided for power-on-reset circuits with low static power consumption. One such circuit includes a detector that draws current from a supply voltage. The detector detects that the supply voltage has exceeded a trip-point voltage level and then disables current draw from the detector. The detector responds to an enable signal by enabling current draw from the detector. A pulse generator generates a reset signal in response the supply voltage transitioning from a voltage below the trip point voltage level to above the trip point voltage level. A monitor detects that the supply voltage has dropped and provides, in response thereto, the enable signal to the detector to enable current draw from the portion of the detector.

Power-on-reset circuit with low power consumption

A system for power regulation is provided. The system includes a plurality of regulator stages and a voltage boost circuit configured to provide a source voltage to a difference amplifier of each regulator stage. The difference amplifier of each regulator stage is configured to compare a feedback voltage to an output voltage of a reference generation circuit. Each regulator stage includes a plurality of output transistors driven by an output of the difference amplifier. The system includes a start-up circuit arranged and configured to power the voltage boost circuit the reference generation circuit while operation in a start up mode.

Fast start-up voltage regulator

Consistent with an example embodiment, there is a power regulator arrangement with variable current capacity providing power from a power supply to a load having variable demand. As a load, a high-performance microprocessor has several modes of operation. At the highest speed setting, it demands a lot of current. At slower clock speeds and during state retention, the processor has a very low current consumption. Using a single regulator, the current efficiency may be very low during long standby periods. To increase the efficiency even at lower load currents, a scheme is based on parallel operation of multiple regulators having different load ranges, for example, a 'low, 'medium,' and &#x201c;high' range regulators. Having knowledge of the load current profile, the regulators can be adjusted such that the peak of the efficiency curve matches the load profile of the regulator. The efficiency of the power regulator arrangement is enhanced throughout the range of power demanded by the load.

Standby current reduction through a switching arrangement with multiple regulators

A method for generating a reference voltage includes generating a proportional-to-absolute temperature (PTAT) voltage across a first pseudo resistor. The first pseudo resistor includes a transistor. The method also includes converting the PTAT voltage to a current based on a resistance of the first pseudo resistor. The method also includes mirroring the current using a current mirror circuit and converting the mirrored current to a converted PTAT voltage using a second pseudo resistor. The second pseudo resistor includes a transistor. The first pseudo resistor and the second pseudo resistor include equal transistor types. The method also includes generating a complementary-to-absolute temperature (CTAT) voltage, and summing the converted PTAT voltage and the CTAT voltage to produce the reference voltage. The resulting reference voltage is temperature independent.

Low-power resistor-less voltage reference circuit

A reference voltage circuit corrects for bandgap voltage shifts induced during fabrication. The reference voltage circuit generates a reference voltage using first and second base-emitter pairs. The reference voltage circuit sums the voltage across the first base-emitter pair with a difference voltage. During a first time period, the difference voltage is the voltage across the first base-emitter pair minus the voltage across the second base-emitter pair, and during a second time period, the difference voltage is the voltage across the second base-emitter pair minus the voltage across the first base-emitter pair.

Reference voltage circuits

Power control is facilitated. In accordance with one or more embodiments, power is supplied to power rails of an integrated circuit using a power control circuit including a power regulator and a reset circuit that is responsive to a supply voltage. The power regulator provides power to the power rails, based upon a control signal. The reset circuit controls the power regulator to provide power to the power rails independently of the control signal when the supply voltage is below an operational voltage level, and controls the power regulator to provide power to the power rails in response to the control signal when the supply voltage reaches the operational voltage level.

Power control device and method therefor

In one embodiment, a regulator circuit is provided. The regulator circuit includes a control circuit configured and arranged to adjust an oscillation frequency of a variable frequency oscillator in response to a feedback signal indicating the regulated output voltage. A charge pump is coupled to an output of the variable frequency oscillator and is configured to charge one or more energy storage elements in response to the output of the variable frequency oscillator. The regulator circuit includes a plurality of output stages, each having an input driven by the output of the charge pump and being configured to drive the regulated output voltage. Each output stage is selectably enabled or disabled in response to respective enable signal provided to the output regulator by an enable control circuit.
