The invention relates to an inorganic filter element comprising: a rigid inorganic porous support; and channels classifiable into n categories where n.gtoreq.2, with all of the channels in each category having identical right cross-section, identical hydraulic diameter, and identical equivalent diameter, the shapes of the right cross-sections of the channels differing between categories. According to the invention, the channels of the various categories have: hydraulic diameters such that the ratios between any two hydraulic diameters lie in the range 0.75 to 1.3; right cross-sectional areas such that the ratios between any two right cross-sectional areas lie in the range 0.75 to 1.3; and equivalent diameters such that the ratio of the equivalent diameter over the hydraulic diameter of each channel is less than or equal to 2.

An inorganic filter element for filtering a fluid medium in order to recover a filtrate, the filter element being of the type including an inorganic rigid porous support of cylindrical shape having a longitudinal central axis, and channels formed in the support parallel to its central axis and presenting respective surfaces each covered in at least one separator layer that is intended to come into contact with the fluid medium, and at least some 'peripheral' ones of the channels. The channels have their centers situated on a circle that is coaxial about the central axis and present a peripheral wall situated facing the outside surface of the support and co-operating therewith to define a direct through passage for the filtrate, and at least one radial wall co-operating with the facing radial wall of an adjacent channel to define a partition, the walls being interconnected by connection fillets. The channels also have a transverse cross-section that is non-circular. Each of the peripheral channels has a through passage of thickness that increases on either side of the middle of the passage going away from the middle so that each through passage possesses a profile in the form of a vault for the purpose of increasing its mechanical strength.

Inorganic porous support for a filter membrane, and method of manufacture

Mechanically strong and thermally/chemically-resistant composite nanofiltration membranes, well adapted for the separation of low molecular weight compounds, comprise a porous inorganic support substrate, the pore diameters of which ranging from 3 to 10 nm, this inorganic support substrate having a polymer membrane which comprises an elastomeric polyphosphazene densely deposited on at least one of the face surfaces thereof, the structural porosity of such polyphosphazene membrane ranging from 0.2 to 2 nm.

Filterable liquid media are continuously filtered by circulating same in a closed circulation loop, to and tangentially through a filtration module provided therealong which confines at least one filtration membrane, e.g., a microfiltration, ultrafiltration or reverse osmosis membrane, and which includes a permeate outlet, and by adjusting the flowrate but not the driving pressure of circulating liquid medium, notably by means of an apertured and perforated rotating disc, as to establish a non-steady periodic pseudophysiological flow thereof, at least over the working face surfaces of the at least one membrane.

The invention relates to a method of manufacturing permeable mineral membranes. The method of the invention is characterized in that a thin layer of gel of peptised hydroxide of at least aluminum is deposited on a permeable perous substrate and the resulting membrane is dried and fired at a temperature between 500.degree. and 1100.degree. C. The resulting membranes can be used for isotopic separation of gases or for filtration and ultrafiltration.
