An optical fiber-based sensing membrane includes at least one optical fiber, and a substrate. The at least one optical fiber is integrated in the substrate. The substrate includes a thickness and a material property that are specified to ascertain, via the at least one optical fiber and for a device that is contiguously engaged with a surface of the substrate, includes the substrate embedded in the device, or includes the surface of the substrate at a predetermined distance from the device, a thermal property or a mechanical property associated with the device, or a radiation level associated with a device environment.

Optical fiber-based sensing membrane

An optical fiber-based sensing membrane includes at least one optical fiber and a substrate. The at least one optical fiber is integrated in the substrate. The optical fiber-based sensing membrane includes, based on a specified geometric pattern of the at least one optical fiber, an optical fiber-based sensing membrane layout. The substrate includes a thickness and a material property that are specified to ascertain, via the at least one optical fiber and based on the optical fiber-based sensing membrane layout, a thermal property or a mechanical property associated with a device, or a radiation level associated with a device environment.

Optical fiber-based sensing membrane layout

In some examples, fiber optic cable location may include transmitting a coherent laser pulse into a device under test (DUT). Based on an analysis of reflected light resulting from the transmitted coherent laser pulse, changes in intensity of the reflected light caused by a plurality of signals directed towards the DUT may be determined. Further, based on the changes in intensity of the reflected light, a location of the DUT may be determined.

Fiber optic cable location system and method

In some examples, dual-end loopback-based multi-fiber cable measurement may include connecting at least two multi-fiber loopback devices respectively to a near end and a far end of a multi-fiber cable to place at least two fibers of the multi-fiber cable in series. The at least two multi-fiber loopback devices may include a near-end multi-fiber loopback device connected to a fiber optic reflectometer and to the near end of the multi-fiber cable to connect together at least two near-end fibers of the multi-fiber cable. Further, the at least two multi-fiber loopback devices may include a far-end multi-fiber loopback device connected to the far end of the multi-fiber cable to connect together at least two far-end fibers of the multi-fiber cable.

Dual-end loopback-based multi-fiber cable measurement

In some examples, optical fiber identification and distance measurement may include utilizing a reflectometer and optical fiber connection device that includes a Rayleigh wavelength pass filter to pass, in one direction, an optical reflectometer signal to an optical fiber. The reflectometer and optical fiber connection device may include a Raman wavelength pass filter to filter out, in another direction, Rayleigh backscattering from the optical reflectometer signal. Further, the Raman wavelength pass filter may pass, in the another direction, a Raman Anti-Stokes signal from the optical fiber.

In some examples, a temperature distribution sensor may include a laser source to emit a laser beam that is tunable to a first wavelength and a second wavelength for injection into a device under test (DUT). A first wavelength optical receiver may convert a return signal corresponding to the first wavelength with respect to Rayleigh backscatter or Raman backscatter Anti-Stokes. A second wavelength optical receiver may convert the return signal corresponding to the second wavelength with respect to Rayleigh backscatter or Raman backscatter Stokes. Bending loss associated with the DUT may be determined by utilizing the Rayleigh backscatter signal corresponding to the first wavelength and the Rayleigh backscatter signal corresponding to the second wavelength. Further, temperature distribution associated with the DUT may be determined by utilizing the Raman backscatter Anti-Stokes signal corresponding to the first wavelength and the Raman backscatter Stokes signal corresponding to the second wavelength.

Dual wavelength distributed temperature sensing with built-in fiber integrity monitoring

In some examples, multiple front-end device based high speed OTDR acquisition may include measuring, in parallel, light transmission with respect to specified optical fibers of a plurality of optical fibers by utilizing a plurality of analog and optic front-end devices. A front-end interlace may be operatively connected to the plurality of analog and optic front-end devices. The front-end interface may convert analog signals received from the specified analog and optic front-end devices to digital signals. A measurement controller may be operatively connected to the front-end interlace to control operation of the plurality of analog and optic front-end devices, and analyze, based on the digital signals, a property of the specified optical fibers.

Multiple front-end device based high speed optical time domain reflectometer acquisition

In some examples, fiber optic virtual sensing may include generating, by a virtual sensor generator that is operatively connected to a device under test (DUT), at least one virtual sensor along the DUT. A DUT interrogator may be operatively connected to the DUT to transmit a stimulus optical signal into the DUT. The DUT interrogator may analyze reflected light resulting from the transmitted stimulus optical signal. The DUT interrogator may determine, based on the analysis of the reflected light, an attribute of the DUT sensed by the at least one virtual sensor.

Fiber optic virtual sensing system and method

In some examples, multiple front-end device based high speed OTDR acquisition may include measuring, in parallel, light transmission with respect to specified optical fibers of a plurality of optical fibers by utilizing a plurality of analog and optic front-end devices. A front-end interface may be operatively connected to the plurality of analog and optic front-end devices. The front-end interface may convert analog signals received from the specified analog and optic front-end devices to digital signals. A measurement controller may be operatively connected to the front-end interface to control operation of the plurality of analog and optic front-end devices, and analyze, based on the digital signals, a property of the specified optical fibers.
