Textiles, preferably yarns and fibers, based on synthetic polymers, with permanent conducting properties, which possess, on the surface, a uniform continuous layer consisting of at least 3% of copper sulphide, the composition of which is such that the atomic ratio Cu/S is between 1.5 and 2, and preferably more than 1.7, and of which the ratio R/R.sub.o is between 1 and 10, R being the electrical resistance after treatment for 400 hours at 60.degree. C. and at a humidity of 70%, and R.sub.o being the initial resistance of the treated textile. The synthetic polymer is based on polyamide or polyester, or is an aromatic polyamide or a polyamide-imide. Processes for the manufacture of these textiles and textile articles with permanent conducting properties, such as floor/wall coverings, containing between 0.01 and 5% of the treated textiles, are also disclosed.

Process of silvering articles such as textile articles in order to make them conductive and the articles silvered by this process. The articles are subjected to the action of a reducing agent which swells the substrate and then to the action of an ammoniacal silver nitrate solution. When a polyamide is used as a substrate, a polyphenol is an acceptable reducing agent. Yarns and fibers treated by the process can be used for the manufacture of floor coverings, wall coverings, and articles of clothing as well as for the manufacture of heating articles.

The invention relates to a method of fixing copper salts on articles of synthetic polymers such as described in copending U.S. Pat. application Ser. No. 353,730 filed Apr. 20, 1973, now U.S. Pat. No. 3,940,533, patented Feb. 24, 1976; it also concerns articles and particularly, textile articles which have been obtained by the process as well as all materials containing them. The process involves subjecting the articles to the action of hydrogen sulfide and then to the action of a copper salt, characterized by the fact that the treatment with the copper salt is carried out in the presence of polyphenol. The articles obtained may be used, because of their good antistatic properties, to the manufacture of floor or wall coverings and, because of their good conductivity, to the manufacture of heating articles (partitions, clothes, industrial heating articles, etc.).

Method of fixing copper salts to articles of synthetic polymers

A method of attaching metal compounds to articles formed from synthetic polymers wherein the articles are subjected to the action of hydrogen sulfide under pressure or to the action of an aqueous solution of a thioacetamide or thiourea, and then to the action of an aqueous solution of a silver, copper (cupric or cuprous), lead, tin or mercury salt. This method makes it possible to obtain articles, particularly textile articles, of improved electrical conductivity.
