The device comprises a valve which is kept open, to allow the flow of driving fluid into one chamber of the jack from the start and right through the stroke, by the exhaust back-pressure escaping from the other chamber of the jack, and acting on the piston of said valve. When the back-pressure disappears, the valve closes under the action of a screw-adjustable spring.
