Embodiments of a method of operation of a service requestor to request a service from a chain controller in a cellular communications network in which a user plane function is decomposed into a plurality of micro user plane functions are disclosed. In some embodiments, the method comprises sending, to the chain controller, a service description or a request to update a service description. The service description comprises one or more service template instances having respective service template definitions. Each service template definition of the respective service template definitions being data that defines a set of micro user plane functions that realize a service or a part of a service. Each service template instance of the one or more service template instances comprises data that defines a reference to the respective service template definition. The method further comprises receiving a reply from the chain controller.

Requesting flexible user-plane services in a service-based architecture

A session of a wireless device () comprises data packets routed via a plurality of anchor network nodes () from a data network (). Methods and network nodes for handling a session comprising data packets to be transmitted to a wireless device

A method and control plane node capable of receiving, from a requester, a request for a unique identifier, selecting an identifier from a pool comprising a plurality of unique identifiers held by the control plane node, creating a key representing the selected identifier in the pool, attempting to write to an initial version of a value of the created key in order to create a key-value pair in the key-value store, wherein the writing is successful if no write previously has been performed to said initial version of the value, and if so returning, to the requester, the selected identifier as an allocated identifier.

Concurrent ID allocation in a service-based architecture

Method and apparatus for controlling migration of a Quick User Datagram Protocol (UDP) Internet Connections (QUIC) connection between a server and a neighboring server of a content delivery network (CDN). The server and the neighboring server comprise respective cache memories, are comprised in the CDN and have a same server IP-address. The QUIC connection is identifiable by a connection identifier (CID) and is established to a migrating wireless device having a client IP-address. The method for controlling migration of the QUIC connection comprises receiving static key information representative of the QUIC connection; determining context transfer state information for the QUIC connection; and controlling transmission of a stateless reset token for the QUIC connection based on the determined context transfer state.

Controlling migration of a QUIC connection

A system and method for server relocation in a packet data network. A transport protocol session is established between a clientand server_to transfer content from the server to the client in data packets. As well as transmitting data packets to the client, the server additionally transmits declarative information as signaling packets. The declarative information includes an identifier of the content being transmitted in the ongoing session. This allows other servers_with the same content to identify the existence of the session and gives them the opportunity to volunteer to take over the session, for example if they can see that the client is now closer to them than the server currently serving the content. The two servers can then coordinate transfer of the session, whereafter the session continues with the second server transmitting content to the client.

Transport protocol server relocation

A method for reusing a tag. The method is performed in a service function node of a mobile communication network and comprises receiving an uplink packet originating from a wireless device; obtaining at least one tag from the uplink packet, wherein each tag is a name value pair added by a node after the packet leaves the wireless device; and adding the at least one tag to a downlink packet destined for the wireless device, wherein the at least one tag influences how the downlink packet is forwarded.

Reusing a tag

A system and method for managing a server in a packet data network. A transport protocol session is established between a client () and server (_) to transfer content from the server to the client in data packets. The transport protocol path is assigned an n-tuple identifier, whereupon the server transmits to the client data packets with the n-tuple identifier. The server additionally transmits declarative information as signaling packets with the n-tuple identifier, wherein the declarative information includes an identifier which is specific to the data being transmitted in the ongoing session. This allows other servers (_) to receive the signaling packets and detect the data that is being transmitted. If such another server then determines that it also has the same data and is better placed to serve that data to the client, it can offer to take over the session.

Supporting transport protocol server relocation

Method in and a network node () for congestion management of a transport network () comprised in a wireless communications network (). The wireless communications network () further comprises a base station () configured to receive data being transported via a data transport path () of the transport network () and to transmit the received data to one or more wireless devices () served by the base station (). The network node obtains () an indicator indicating at least a risk for occurrence of downlink data congestion in the data transport path (). To reduce said at least risk, the network node then controls () the base station () to reduce and/or limit a throughput rate of data being transmitted to the one or more wireless devices (). Method and network node for congestion management in a wireless communications network

It is presented a method for assisting a resource allocation transfer of a wireless device from a source site of a mobile communication network to a target site of the mobile communication network. The method is performed in a service function node at the source site and comprises the steps of: receiving an indication of resource allocation transfer of the wireless device; and transmitting a reset signal to a user service node at the source site, the reset signal commanding the user service node to reset its transport layer session with the wireless device.

Assisting resource allocation transfer

It is disclosed a client node, a first network node, a second network node, and methods therefore, for enabling forward error correction, FEC, of data. In uplink, the client node is adapted to transmit a lightweight FEC packet, enabling to save radio resources. The first network node is adapted to calculate a payload for the FEC packet and to append the payload to a 'lightweight' FEC packet, and to transmit the thus modified FEC packet to an endpoint of the uplink. In the downlink, the second network node may be adapted to determine whether a received FEC packet is redundant or not, and is adapted not to transmit it as is, to an endpoint client node, if the FEC packet is redundant, enabling saving radio resources.

Forward error correction in cellular networks

The invention relates to a method in an arrangement of a communication network, controlling a function for processing data packets of a flow associated with a device. The method comprises determining () to relocate the function for processing the data packets from a source instance to a target instance for the device, controlling () transmission of an instruction to the source instance to relocate the function for processing the data packets to the target instance, and controlling () an update of a switching element in a chain of functions for processing the data packets of the flow comprising said function. The switching element affects the routing of the data packets of the flow in the chain. The switching element is updated with information related to the relocated function. The invention also relates to a method performed by the source instance and to the arrangement and the source instance.

Method and arrangement for relocating packet processing functions

The invention relates to a method in an arrangement of a communication network, controlling a chain of functions for processing data packets of a flow associated with a device. The method comprises obtaining () an indication indicating that information associated with a context of at least one of the functions has been altered. The context is related to the flow and at least one of the communication network, the device, a route of the flow, and a source instance of each of the at least one function. The method further comprises determining () to relocate the at least one function for processing the data packets from the respective source instance to a respective target instance based on the obtained indication. The method also comprises relocating () the at least one function for processing the data packets to the respective target instance.

A method and apparatus routes packets through a network. A network node has outgoing links each associated with at least one link ID. At least one of the links is associated with link IDs. A received packet includes a state variable and routing information which encodes a set of link IDs associated with respective links forming a path through the network. The encoding forms a probabilistic data structure used to test whether a link ID is a member of the set of link IDs. For each of the plurality of outgoing links, the data structure is tested for membership of the link's associated link ID.
