Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Industrial automation with 5G and beyond

Systems and methods are disclosed herein that enable Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) network or Deterministic Networking (DetNet) network replication function fallback. In some embodiments, a method comprises, at a primary replication function, obtaining a packet in a particular stream, obtaining a sequence number for the packet, generating M copies of the packet each comprising the sequence number, transmitting the M copies, and providing, to a redundancy controller, the sequence number or a next sequence number of a next packet to be transmitted for the particular stream. The method further comprises, at the redundancy controller, receiving the sequence number or the next sequence number and providing the sequence number or the next sequence number to a secondary replication function. The method further comprises, at the secondary replication function, receiving the sequence number or the next sequence number and configuring a sequence generation function with the next sequence number.

Systems and methods enabling TSN/DetNet replication function fallback

Systems and methods for packet or frame replication and elimination in a Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) network or Deterministic Networking (DetNet) network are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a node in a TSN network or DetNet network comprises determining whether to reset a sequence recovery function used for frame or packet elimination for a particular stream of packets based on either or both of an explicit indication or an implicit indication and resetting the sequence recovery function used for frame or packet elimination for the particular stream of packets upon determining to reset the sequence recovery function. In this manner, packet or frame elimination is improved by avoiding scenarios that result in discarding valid packets or frames due to an out of sync condition between the sequence generation function at the replicator and the sequence recovery function at the eliminator.

Packet or frame replication and elimination with explict or implict notification to reset sequence number recovery

It is disclosed a method and an apparatus () of providing a function as a service, faas, deployment of an application. A deployment unit is generated () per group of application blocks, where said deployment unit comprises said group of application blocks, and an implementation of function invocation for functions being accessed by groups of application blocks. Function invocations of the group of application blocks are constrained or bound () to libraries of supporting implementations. Deployment units are provided () together with the element invocations attached to said libraries, to a lifecycle manager of a faas platform, whereby the faas platform implements the faas deployment of said application the performance targets of which, being related to the groups of application blocks. This disclosure enables a developer to adjust the performance of an application without having to change the logic of application implementations.

Method and apparatus of providing a function as a service (faas) deployment of an application

A technique for dynamically determining a modification of an initial cloud computing deployment (CCD) of a serverless application with multiple application functions is described. The multiple application functions in the initial CCD are grouped into one or more deployment artifacts each comprising at least one application function, wherein each deployment artifact is associated with a dedicated cloud computing platform type selected from FaaS and CaaS. An apparatus of the present disclosure is configured to obtain at least one requirement for the serverless application or its deployment, and to obtain an application model of the serverless application. The apparatus is further configured to determine, based on the application model and the at least one requirement, a modified CCD of the serverless application, wherein the modified CCD comprises at least one of a modified grouping of the multiple application functions into one or more deployment artifacts and a modified association of a particular deployment artifact with a dedicated cloud computing platform type selected from at least FaaS and CaaS.

A method is provided by a network element to execute a forwarding information base (FIB) manager to program a packet forwarding function of the network element. The FIB manager supports a hybrid control plane with software defined networking (SDN) and local control plane processes. The method includes receiving a request to configure a node reachability configuration element, where the node reachability element describes packet processing instruction for the packet forwarding function to forward packets toward a referred node, selecting a flow control agent to be updated for reachability to the referred node, and updating a logical forwarding information representation to encode a next hop identifier for the referred node.

A system and method of automatically configuring a Service Instance Identifier (I-SID) in a Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) controlled network. The method begins by identifying a specific I-SID for a specific service in the GMPLS controlled network. Next, the identified I-SID is automatically configured within a Backbone Edge Bridge (BEB) with a Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE) extension. The automatic configuration may be implemented by several different embodiments. In one embodiment, the I-SID may be carried in a SESSION_ATTRIBUTE object. In another embodiment, the I-SID may be mapped to a Short Call ID field in a Session object. Alternatively, the I-SID may be carried in an Endpoint ID Type-Length-Value (TLV). The I-SID may also be carried in a new TLV in a LSP_ATTRIBUTES or CALL_ATTRIBUTES object.

The method requests that a subset of OpenFlow switches in the network report metrics for an OpenFlow data flow to provide a management module with information for executing a management function. An example method transmits a path message to an egress node, via intermediate nodes, that configures OAM monitoring of an entire connection between an ingress node and the egress node and also configures OAM monitoring of at least one segment of the connection shorter than the entire connection by at least one intermediate node. The LSP object comprises technology-specific attributes defining descriptors for configuring the egress node in accordance with a communication protocol utilized for the connection; and technology-independent OAM parameters that, irrespective of the communication protocol, define an OAM type to be used by the egress node, and define desired monitoring actions for the egress node to perform. The ERO comprises a respective HOP Attributes sub-object for configuring each of the at least one intermediate nodes. Each HOP Attributes sub-object also comprises technology-specific attributes and technology-independent OAM parameters.

A method performed by a network element implementing an OpenFlow controller, the OpenFlow controller including an operations, administration and management (OAM) module. The OAM module services an OAM function request in a network implementing OpenFlow. The method requests that a subset of OpenFlow switches in the network report metrics for an OpenFlow data flow to provide the OAM module with information for executing the requested OAM function. The method comprising the steps of receiving by an OAM module of the network element a request to execute the OAM function, generating a trigger monitoring message by the OAM module, the trigger monitoring message defining actions to be performed by an OpenFlow switch in the subset of OpenFlow switches, wherein the actions are to provide the metrics for the OpenFlow data flow, sending the trigger monitoring message to the OpenFlow switch, receiving a plurality of monitor response messages from the subset of OpenFlow switches, each of the plurality of monitor response messages including the metrics for the OpenFlow data flow, correlating the plurality of monitor response messages with the OAM function request, executing the requested OAM function using the metrics of the OpenFlow data flow by the OAM module, and returning a result of the requested OAM function.
