Electronic devices including a textured component such as a cover member positioned over one or more components of the electronic device. Different surface regions of the textured component may be textured differently in order to provide optical contrast. For example, differently textured surface regions may differ in gloss, translucency, or both. In some cases the cover member defines a protruding feature and a surface region of the protruding feature is textured differently than an adjacent surface region.

The disclosure provides textured glass components as well as electronic device cover assemblies and enclosures which include the textured glass components. In some cases, a protruding portion of the glass component includes a textured region provided over a camera assembly of the electronic device. One or more openings may be provided in the textured region. The textured region may be configured to provide a translucent or hazy appearance to the electronic device while providing a desirable 'feel' to the electronic device and level of cleanability.

A ceramic composite article includes a substrate including a matrix of ceramic material defining a network of interstitial regions and a transparent material occupying at least some of the interstitial regions of the substrate. The transparent material can have a melting point lower than a melting point of the ceramic material. The matrix of ceramic material can be formed by a 3D printing process.

Disclosed is a method for providing a crystalline ceramic material. In an example, the method includes providing a silicon-containing preceramic polymer material that can be thermally converted to one or more crystalline polymorphs. The silicon-containing preceramic polymer material includes dispersed therein an effective amount of dopant particles. The silicon-containing preceramic polymer material is then thermally converted to the silicon-containing ceramic material. The effective amount of dopant particles enhance the formation of at least one of the one or more crystalline polymorphs, relative to the silicon-containing preceramic polymer without the dopant particles, with respect to at least one of formation of a selected polymorph of the one or more crystalline polymorphs formed, an amount formed of a selected polymorph of the one or more crystalline polymorphs formed, and a temperature of formation of the one or more crystalline polymorphs.
