A method and control arrangement for controlling an automated crowd gate that operates to form a side of a holding area and moves in relation to an entrance of a destination in order to cause animals located in the holding area to move towards the destination, wherein location data defining individual positions of one or more animals located in the holding area is obtained from a real-time location system, location data, a current position of the crowd gate is obtained, and an operation of the crowd gate is controlled based on the obtained position of the crowd gate and the obtained location data of the animals.

Method and control arrangement for controlling an automated crowd gate

A sensor arrangement measures a parameter (P) representing a position of a movable platform of a rotary parlor relative to a stationary reference point. Based on the parameter, in turn, a control unit influences the movement of the movable platform. A first transmitter unit with a first transmitter antenna is placed on the movable platform and thus moves along with the movable platform. A first radio signal emitted from the transmitter antenna contains a timing reference and uniquely identifies the first transmitter unit. At least three receiver stations are stationary placed with a respective receiver antenna located such that the first radio signal is received via line-of-sight propagation. Based on the first radio signal and respective propagation times derived from the timing reference in the first radio signal (SID), the receiver stations generate the parameter (P).

An animal milking method and apparatus wherein a single milk meter measures the total milk flow from all four quarters of an animals udder, and the data generated by the milk meter is used to detect a departure from a predicted milk flow versus time relationship, indicative of an injured teat or an infected udder quarter, for altering the herdsman to a condition which warrants medical inspection of the animal concerned.

Milking method and apparatus

A method for calibrating milk meters in a milking system includes a milking station having at least one milk meter that measures a value of a milking performance of a milking animal. The method includes the steps: determining a reference value which reflects the amount of milk received from a number of milking animals during a selected time period in a reference unit, retrieving all measured values during the selected time period for each milk meter that by itself contribute to the amount of milk received by the reference unit, comparing the reference value with the sum of all retrieved measured values and calculating a correction function for one of the milk meters, and using the calculated correction function to adjust the measured value from the milk meter.
