A device for monitoring a skin surface for leakage of blood at, for example, a wound or a vascular access. The device comprises a patient unit, a connection unit and a monitor unit. The patient unit comprises a patch, including an adhesive layer to be attached to the skin surface of the patient. The adhesive layer is arranged to attach the patch to the skin so that a predetermined removal force, such as 30N, is required for removing the patch from the skin surface. A patient optical fiber is arranged at the patch and has a proximal end for connection to the connection unit. A patient connector is arranged at the distal end of a connection optical fiber. The connector has an opening passing through the connector, whereby the connection optical fiber is arranged in one end of the opening. The patient optical fiber may be inserted in the other end of the opening so that the proximal end of the patient optical fiber is arranged in register with the distal end of the connection optical fiber in order to transmit light between the optical fibers. A spring is arranged in the connector for exerting a force at the patient optical fiber at a side surface thereof for preventing unintentional withdrawal of the patient optical fiber. However, when the withdrawal force is larger than the removal force of the patch, the patient optical fiber is withdrawn from the connector. Thus, the patch is not removed from the skin even when a large force is exerted on the optical fibers.

Device for monitoring blood leakage from wounds

An industrial fabric, belt or sleeve and a method of making the fabric, belt or sleeve are disclosed. The industrial fabric, belt or sleeve is produced by spirally winding strips of polymeric material, such as an industrial strapping or ribbon material, around two rolls in a side-to-side manner in which a gap between adjacent edges is formed. A second material, for example a gap filler material, is placed between the adjacent edges, and the adjoining edges are joined by melting the filler material, strips of polymeric material, or both. The gap filler material can have a specific cross-sectional shape corresponding to the gap.

Industrial fabric comprising spirally wound material strips and method of making thereof

A smoothed and durable industrial process fabric and method for producing such a fabric. The fabric may be used as a papermaker's fabric, other industrial process fabric and/or engineered fabric. In any case, the fabric is processed using a device comprising at least two smooth rolls which form a pressure nip, such as a calender, such that at least some of the fabric components are permanently deformed. Preferably, at least one of the rolls is heated to a pre-selected temperature.

A transportable apparatus for treating M&#xe9;ni&#xe8;re's disease comprises electronically controlled pressure variation unit housed in an inner casing which is partially enclosed by an outer casing provided with an opening covered by a removable cover. A storage compartment is disposed between the casings to receive a flexible tube provided with an ear plug. The flexible tube is connected to the pressure variation unit. The storage compartment surrounds a first portion of the inner casing in which the flexible tube can be disposed in a coiled manner.

Transportable apparatus for treating Meniere's disease

An apparatus for treatment of M&eacute;ni&egrave;re's disease by intermittently increasing air (gas) pressure, in an air (gas) pressure chamber in communication with an outwardly sealed external ear volume bordering the tympanic membrane, comprises a peripherally fixed flexible circular diaphragm forming a wall of the chamber and being displaceable in a perpendicular direction essentially without being tensioned. Displacement of the diaphragm away from the chamber is effected by air pressure built up in the chamber, not by a separate displacement device. The apparatus further comprises a linear electromagnetic device for displacing the diaphragm. The apparatus may include systems for gas pressure sensing; chamber pressure equalizing; and microprocessor control, for controlling the displacement of the diaphragm and the pressure equalizing device by a signal input from the pressure sensing device.
