A method by an access point to provide wireless terminals with access to a packet core network. The method includes attaching to the packet core network via a cellular radio access network, where the access point is configured to operate as a router of a subnet associated with an Internet Protocol (IP) address space, relaying signaling between a wireless terminal and the packet core network to authenticate/authorize the wireless terminal to access the packet core network and to allocate to the wireless terminal an IP address, establishing a dedicated Packet Data Network (PDN) connection for the wireless terminal between the access point and a packet gateway of the packet core network, establishing one or more dedicated bearers associated with the dedicated PDN connection, and routing packets between the wireless terminal and the packet core network via the one or more dedicated bearers associated with the dedicated PDN connection.

A method of providing access for wireless terminals to a packet core network. The method comprises attaching an access point to said packet core network via a cellular radio access network, defining a subnet associated with an Internet Protocol (IP) address space, and configuring said access point as a router of the subnet. Then, for each wireless terminal that requires access to said packet core network via said access point, the following operations are performed: a) authenticating and authorizing the wireless terminal to the packet core network via the access point, and b) exchanging signaling between the wireless terminal and the packet core network via the access point in order to allocate to the wireless terminal an IP address from said IP address space.

Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for methods and systems for handing off user equipment between different access systems, e.g., a high rate packet data (HRPD) system and a long term evolution (LTE) system. Resources to be used in the target system can be allocated prior to breaking the serving radio connection to minimize 'break before make' time associated with the handoff.

The present invention relates to a reverberation chamber (RC) comprising at least one antenna head attached at a first side of the chamber and a stirrer adapted to rotate. The RC comprises an arrangement to enable UE antennas to be placed at a location within the RC such that the stirrer is adapted to rotate to simulate a fading condition for the UE antennas in relation to the antenna heads attached at the first side and that RF connections from the antenna heads arc adapted to be connected to a cellular network, such as a closed cellular network.

Arrangement and method for simulating a radio access network

This disclosure is directed to a method in a MME node or a S4-SGSN node for dynamic Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) assisted management of network parameters, where the method comprises sending or receiving network related parameters to or from, respectively, a PCRF node through a direct MME/S4-SGSN-PCRF interface. This disclosure is also directed to a MME node and a S4 SGSN node and a PCRF node configured to operatively perform the method.

Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for handing off user equipment between different access networks, e.g., a high rate packet data (HRPD) system and a long term evolution (LTE) system. An existing mobile IP session can be maintained by the UE during the handoff.

Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for selectively transmitting a pre-registration, re-registration or de-registration initiation message associated with handing off user equipment between different access systems, e.g., a long term evolution (LTE) system and a high rate packet data (HRPD) system, to reduce dormant sessions. The decision to selectively transmit initiation messages is typically performed by a dormant session management function (DSMF).

A call handling method and apparatus provide improved call handling in scenarios where concurrent voice and data service is not supported, or is not possible. A wireless communication network can be configured to provide real-time notifications of incoming voice calls to mobile stations that are busy in data calls, and can route those incoming voice call to voice mail, etc. The network can be configured to attempt call delivery of an incoming voice call to a mobile station busy in a data call with or without prompting the mobile station user, depending on the type of data service the mobile station is engaged in. According to exemplary embodiments, the traffic channel and other resources as desired are retained from the data call for use in supporting the voice call. Also, the mobile stations can be configured to support such notification, reconfiguration and channel retention processing.

Method and apparatus for call notification and delivery to a busy mobile station

A wireless communication network manages communication resources based on the types of packet data being carried by the network for each mobile station. Packet data for each use is matched to packet matching filters in defined flow type profiles. Each flow type profile corresponds to an expected application behavior and includes one or more resource control parameters having values set with regard to that expected behavior. An application activity profile is generated for each mobile station based on deriving resource control parameters using parameter values corresponding to the active flows for each mobile station. The network determines each mobile station's active flows based on matching that mobile station's packet data types to one or more of the defined flow type profiles. Thus, the network manages communication resources individually and/or jointly for its users based on the type of packet data traffic passing through the network for each of those users.
