A method for determining a capability of a user equipment. The user equipment is served by a non-shared network in a first place. The non-shared network is configured to transmit a message to the user equipment, the message including information on at least two PLMN identities. The user equipment is configured to deliver a response message from which it is determined if the response message includes information field reserved for at least one PLMN identity in the transmitted message. On a basis of an existence of the information field in the response message it can be determined that the user equipment supports network sharing. In other case it is determined that the user equipment is not supporting network sharing. A network node and a system implementing at least part of the method are also described.

Determination of a capability of a user equipment

A method to be utilized in cell reselection in a mobile communication network offers a cell reselection mechanism based on absolute priorities. The mobile terminal measures several characteristics of a radio channel. The mobile terminal is configured to determine for each of the cells if the characteristics of the radio channel meet corresponding predetermined criteria compared to the received threshold values, and in response to outcome of the comparison determining at least one radio channel for reselection of a cell. A mobile terminal and a system for implementing the method are also described.

Cell reselection mechanism

The invention relates to a method and apparatus. In the method, an apparatus, for example, a base station, receives radio interface capabilities from a mobile node. The apparatus receives a subscriber frequency band priority profile identifier from a mobility management entity node. The apparatus finds an entry from a frequency band priority data structure using the subscriber frequency band priority profile identifier and the at least one radio interface capability and obtaining at least one frequency band priority from the entry. The apparatus applies the at least one frequency band priority to control the mobility of the mobile node.

Apparatus and a method for selecting a frequency band in a mobile communication system

A Network node provides information to a base station indicating a list of forbidden frequency from which the base station may or may not offer services. The base station checks the received list of forbidden frequencies when considering whether to provide service to user equipments from a new tracking area or a certain access technology. The base may also transmit a list of allowed frequencies or the list of forbidden frequencies to user equipments to be used thereof. By introducing the possibility to set an amount of frequencies as forbidden in the area and access restriction information of user equipments, operators would be able to offer services like home base station in a simple way to customers.

Method and apparatus for frequency access restriction in cellular communications

The invention relates to a method for performing a selection of a public land mobile network identity in a shared network environment, in which environment at least two public land mobile network identities are available for providing circuit switched based service to a user equipment. The method includes determining a capability of the user equipment and selecting the public land mobile network identity at least partly on the basis of the capability of the user equipment among the at least two public land mobile network identities. Information on the capability of the user equipment is maintained in a database and in a step of determining the capability of the user equipment, the database is utilized. Furthermore, the invention relates to a network element and a system for implementing at least partly the method according to the invention.

Network selection in a shared network environment

The invention relates to a method in a first communication node in a wireless communications network comprising a plurality of second communication nodes for enabling a central processing of local data from second communication nodes in the network. The first communication node establishes () an intemode connection in a radio access network of the wireless communications network to a second communication node wherein information is sent of a virtual cell of the first communication node. The first communication node then requests () and receives () local information from the second communication node. The received local information is then processed () into processed data to be used to centrally process the local information of the second communication node. For centrally processing the local information, the processed data is transmitted () to a third communication node.

Method and node for enabling central processing of local information

A method for performing a selection of a public land mobile network identity in a shared network environment, in which environment at least two public land mobile network identities are available for providing circuit switched based service to user equipment. The method includes at least a step of deter-mining a capability of the user equipment and a step of selecting the public land mobile network identity at least partly on the basis of the capability of the user equipment among the at least two public land mobile network identities. Information on the capability of the user equipment is either received from the user equipment or from a database including capability information on the user equipment. Furthermore, a network element and a system for implementing at least partly the method are described.

A method where a first type location area of a mobile node is registered to a first mobility management node. A second type location area is determined based on a location of the mobile node. A second type location area of the mobile node is registered to a second mobility management node of a second system. A request to perform user plane bearer establishment through the second system is received. Thereupon, radio measurements associated with at least two candidate cells are obtained from the mobile node. Candidate cells are searched to find at least one cell associated with the second type location area. A cell is selected among the at least one cell, which is indicated to the selected cell to the mobile node. A handover request is provided to the mobile node.

Method for performing a handover in a mobile communication system

A cellular radio communications network includes a core network with a core network node coupled to a radio access network (RAN) associated with a first radio access technology for communicating with mobile radio terminals. The RAN includes multiple RAN nodes. Each mobile radio terminal has an associated access class for accessing service from the cellular radio communications network. The core network node detects an overload condition and sends an overload message to the RAN nodes that includes information for reducing the overload condition. Each of the RAN nodes receives the overload message and determines whether an access class restriction should be implemented to reduce the number of mobile radio terminals permitted to access the cellular radio communications network. If so, the RAN node determines one or more access classes of mobile radio terminals to be restricted based on the information in the overload message. Information relating to the one or more restricted access classes is transmitted in an area associated with the RAN node so that the mobile terminals of a restricted access class are prohibited from accessing the cellular radio communications network.

Core network processing load reduction

A cellular radio communications network includes a core network coupled to a radio access network (RAN) that has multiple RAN nodes for communication with mobile radio terminals. Each of the multiple RAN nodes serves one or more cells. At least one cell associated with a first RAN node is in a restricted or reserved access state in which access to the one cell is restricted for at least some mobile radio terminals. The first RAN node sends a message to a second RAN node to inform the second RAN node of that restricted access cell. The fact that the restricted status of the one cell has changed is detected. A global message tha is not related to a specific mobile terminal is generated that includes information that the restricted status of the one cell has changed. The first RAN node sends the global message to the second RAN node to inform the second RAN node of the change in the restricted status of the one cell.

Communicating cell restriction status information between radio access network nodes

Methods and apparatuses for automatically determining neighbor cells are disclosed. Cell information is received. The received cell information is compared with a list of old neighbor cells. When a new cell is detected, a determination is made as to whether the detected new cell covers the same geographical area as any of the old neighbor cells. When the new cell covers the same geographical area as at least one of the cells of the list, the new cell is stored as a neighbor cell in the list. Cell information is received. The received cell information is compared with a list of old neighbor cells. New neighbors are detected based on the comparison. A determination is made as to whether there are cells in a same geographic area as the new neighbors. A determination is made as to whether there are new cells in a same geographic area as the old neighbor cells. The new neighbors, the cells in the same geographic area as the new neighbors, and the new cells are stored as neighbors in the list.

Method and apparatus for automatically determining neighbor cells in a wireless telecommunication system

In a method of sharing a Radio Access Network, RAN, in one or more areas by at least two operators the determination whether to grant admission or not of a User Equipment, UE, to the RAN is performed in an admission control algorithm. A Radio Network Controller, RNC, is reading Network Resource Identifier, NRI, information contained in an 'Initial Direct Transfer' message sent by the UE when requesting a service, and the read NRI information is used in a service admission control to check a plurality of service admission parameters as a part of a set of admission control parameters to grant or reject the requested service depending on whether the operator associated with the NRI has invested in needed technology or not. A corresponding radio access network comprises admission control means to determine whether to grant admission of a User Equipment, UE, to the network, RAN, or not. A Radio Network Controller, RNC, is arranged to read NRI, information contained in the 'Initial Direct Transfer' message sent by an UE, when requesting a service, and sending the read NRI information to the admission control means to check a plurality of service admission parameters as a part of a set of admission control parameters to grant or reject the requested service depending on whether the operator associated with the NRI has invested in needed technology or not.
