Apparatuses and methods for washing a plurality of fluid samples are disclosed herein. In an embodiment, a system for washing a plurality of fluid samples respectively located within a plurality of cuvettes includes a rotor configured to rotate the plurality of cuvettes about an axis, a traveler mechanism located beneath the rotor, the traveler mechanism configured to move a plurality of magnets parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor to position the plurality of magnets so that each cuvette of the plurality of cuvettes is located adjacent to at least one magnet of the plurality of magnets, and a wash system located above the rotor, the wash system configured to at least one of inject fluid into or aspirate fluid from the plurality of the cuvettes, while the plurality of magnets suspend magnetic particles located within each of the plurality of cuvettes.

In an embodiment, a mixing device for an immunochemistry system includes a pipette configured to aspirate fluid and/or paramagnetic particles from or dispense fluid and/or paramagnetic particles into a cuvette, at least one nonconcentric mass configured cause the pipette to move in a mixing motion, and a control unit configured to activate the at least one nonconcentric mass while the pipette is located within the cuvette so as to mix the fluid and/or paramagnetic particles within the cuvette.

Apparatuses and methods of optically analyzing fluid within a pipette are described herein. In an embodiment, an optical reader subassembly includes a pipette configured to aspirate and hold a fluid sample within its tip, a housing configured to receive at least the tip of the pipette through a reentrant seal so that the tip of the pipette is located in a light tight manner within an internal area, a light source positioned to be in proximity to the tip of the pipette when the tip of the pipette is received by the housing, the light source configured to project light through the tip of the pipette and onto the fluid sample held within the tip, and an optical sensor configured to take a reading of the fluid sample held within the tip of the pipette without any of the fluid sample being injected from the pipette.

Apparatuses and methods of optically analyzing fluid within a pipette are described herein. In an embodiment, an optical reader subassembly includes a housing including an internal area, a container configured to hold a fluid sample at a sample position in a light tight manner within the internal area of the housing, a light source configured to project light onto the fluid sample within the container, and an optical sensor configured to move between different sensor positions while the fluid sample remains stationary at the sample position, the different sensor positions including at least two of: (i) a first sensor position for taking a luminescence reading of the fluid sample; (ii) a second sensor position for taking a dark current or other background measurement; and (iii) a third sensor position for taking a fluorescence reading of the fluid sample.

An apparatus for measuring the luminescence and the fluorescence of a sample, comprising: a light tight optics box capable of receiving a pipette tip containing a sample; an optical sensor located within the optics box and capable of being disposed in both a luminescence reading position and a fluorescence reading position; an excitation light fiber optic bundle and a sample transmission fiber optic bundle; an excitation light assembly that projects excitation light onto a first terminus end of the excitation light fiber optic bundle; and an in-line filter located along the sample transmission fiber optic bundle.

A two-dimensional direct memory access system that maximizes processing resources in image processing systems. The present invention includes a two-dimensional direct memory access machine. Also, it employs a ping-pong style memory buffer to assist in the transfer and management of data. In certain applications of the invention, the type of data used by the invention is image data. The two-dimensional direct memory access machine transfers a specific cross sectional area of the image data to a processor. The efficient method of providing the processor only with the specific cross sectional area of the image data that is to be processed at a given time provides decreased processing time and a better utilization of processing resources within the two-dimensional direct memory access system. The present invention may be contained in a variety of image processing systems operating as either a peripheral or a stand alone device including but not limited to color photo-copy machines, color facsimiles, color printers, black and white printers, digital cameras, and digital printers. In certain embodiments, the two-dimensional direct memory access system exchanges image data between random access memory and a digital signal processor using the two-dimensional direct memory access machine and the ping-pong style memory buffer.

K replacement for color digital image printing reduces the computational complexity and processing resource requirements of an image printing system. The invention is implemented using a variety of devices capable of reproducing image data including color photo-copy machines, color facsimiles, color printers, black and white printers, and digital printers. The image printing system is employed in a multi-functional peripheral capable of performing several functions. The image printing system detects whether or not ink is to be printed using all of the available print channels in the system. If ink is to be printed using a predetermined number of the print channels, the image printing system performs K replacement and applies error diffusion to a predetermined number of the print channels. In certain embodiments, K replacement is performed only when the spectral content of a given pixel falls within a predetermined range of a spectrum. This spectrum may be a color spectrum wherein the spectrum varies across the entire visible spectrum. Alternatively, the spectrum can be an intensity spectrum wherein the spectrum varies from a highest intensity to a lowest intensity.

An image processing system uses probability error diffusion, and is implemented using a variety of devices capable of reproducing image data including color photo-copy machines, color facsimiles, color printers, black and white printers, and digital printers. The image processing system is employed in a multi-functional peripheral capable of performing several functions. The image processing system identifies which channels in a printing device will print a pixel, and applies error diffusion to those channels. The image processing system determines characteristics of the pixel and subsequently calculates a pixel placement probability, and then applies the error diffusion to the pixel placement probability. Error diffusion may also be applied to a difference between the pixel placement probability and a print probability.
