A planet carrier assembly has a plurality of pinion gears rotatably mounted on pinion pins, each pin having a slot formed thereon. A locator ring is assembled onto the pinion pins and rotated in a manner such that the locator ring engages the slots in the pinion pins and a plurality of tabs and protuberances engage complementary components formed on a housing member of the planet carrier assembly. The locator ring ensures both axial and rotational positioning of the pinion pins within the planet carrier housing.

A power transmission has a compound input gearset, a Ravigneaux gearset, five friction type torque-transmitting mechanisms, and a one-way type torque-transmitting mechanism selectively engageable to provide at least six forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio for the transmission. The input gearset includes a planet carrier, which is stationary within a transmission housing and connected with a stationary portion of the transmission housing. The planet carrier also includes a central support member which provides nonrotatable housings for the apply pistons for three of the friction type torque-transmitting mechanisms.

Multi-speed power transmission

A thrust has a pair of axially extending positioning and retaining members which align with respective recesses formed in a transmission housing component in which the thrust washer is to be retained. The retaining member has a resilient portion which is deformable to accommodate interference fit with the respective recess thereby retaining the washer in situ. The positioning member provides a locating element and prevents rotational displacement of the washer during assembly of the housing to the transmission.
