A method for managing localized resources displayable during execution of a software product includes receiving a localization build request from a source control platform. The localization build request specifies a unique resource identifier and a resource value for each of multiple displayable resources associated with execution of the software product in a default geographic locale. For each displayable resource, the method further includes determining a relevant recency timestamp based on a build timestamp of the localization build request and retrieving, based on the relevant recency timestamp for the displayable resource, at least one translated resource indexed in association with the relevant recency timestamp. The method still further includes adding the at least one translated resource to a localization build for the software product and returning the localization build to the source control platform.

Cumulative localization architecture

A method of and system of for compressing and decompressing a localized software resource is disclosed. The method may include receiving a software resource, the software resource being in a first language, receiving a localized software resource for compression, where the software resource in the first language is a counterpart of the localized software resource in the second language. Upon receiving the software resources creating a first local dictionary for the localized software resource based at least in part on one or more first language words in the software resource and on data from a global dictionary, and compressing the localized software resource based on the local dictionary.

Efficient storage and retrieval of resource data

A method for compressing a first application file and second application file includes accessing the first and the second application files, the first application file being in a first language and the second application being in a second language and being a counterpart of the first application file, decompressing the first and second application files to access internal files for the first and the second application files, comparing one of the first internal files to one of the second internal files, upon determining that the first internal file is identical to the second internal file, copying one of the internal files to an output folder, and upon determining that the files are not identical, copying both of the internal files to the output folder, or executing a differencing procedure on the first and second internal files to identify differences between them, storing data about the differences in the output folder, and compressing the output folder into one output file.

A method for localizing a software resource in a second language is disclosed. The method may include receiving a software resource in a first language, receiving data relating to a state of translations performed for the software application by a localization service, determining based on the software resource in the first language and the data whether an up-to-date software resource in a second language exists in a data store where the software resource in the second language corresponds to the software resource in the first language. Upon determining that the up-to-date software resource in the second language exists, utilizing the up-to-date software resource in the build process, and upon determining that the up-to-date software resource does not exist in the data store, sending a request to the localization service to create the up-to-date software resource in the second language, and upon creation of the up-to-date software resource receiving a link to a location of the software resource in the data store.

In a device for de-duplicating localized resources including a processor and a memory in communication with the processor, the memory includes executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to control the device to perform functions of accessing, from a data storage, a source resource package and a localized resource package containing first and second resources, respectively; filtering the localized resource package to identify the second resources that are not duplicates of the first resources; creating, based on the first resources, a language-neutral resource collection including a plurality of language-neutral resources; creating a localized resource collection including the second resources that are not duplicates of the first resources; and creating a deployment resource package containing the language-neutral and localized resource collections.

Technology is disclosed herein for compressing, encoding, and otherwise reducing the size of resource files. In at least one implementation, similarity compression is employed to reduce the size of a resource file. In another implementation, map-less encoding is employed to reduce the number of bytes used to represent a resource string. Bit-level compression is employed in another implementation to reduce the quantity of bits used to encode each character in a string. In addition, implementations are disclosed related to technology for naming strings and accelerated string location and retrieval.

A method is presented for obtaining contact information on a client computer. A request is received to display contact information for a person on an email application running on the client computer. A determination is made as to whether third party contact information is available for a user of the email application. Instructions are obtained from a server computer for obtaining the third party contact information from a third party computer associated with a social network. Instructions are obtained from the server computer for formatting the third party contact information on the client computer. Using the instructions from the server computer for obtaining the third party contact information, the third party contact information is obtained from the third party computer. Using the instructions from the server computer for formatting the third party contact information, the obtained third party contact information is formatted and displayed on the client computer.

Tools and techniques for repositories and related services for managing localization of resources are described herein. These repositories may include representations of resources provided in first human languages, representations of software products that may incorporate these resources; and representations of other human languages into which the resources are localized. The repositories may relate the resources to the software products and to the other human languages. Methods provided by these tools may receive the resources as provided in the first human languages, send the resources for localization into other human languages, and receive localized resources. The methods may convert the localized resources into binary representations, and build software products that incorporate the binary representations. The tools may also provide systems that include processors, suitable bus systems, and computer-readable storage media that contains the resource repository.

Repositories and related services for managing localization of resources

Tools and techniques for unified formats for resources and repositories for managing localization are described herein. The unified resource repositories may include representations of any number of resources, the resources representing textual information that is displayable in user interface presented by software applications. The representations of the resources may include respective data tags that are associated with name attributes identifying the resources, value tags providing values of the resources. Meta tags provide recursive nesting mechanisms for associating the name attribute and the value tag with additional instances of name attributes and value tags.

Unified formats for resources and repositories for managing localization

A text string representing a number in a specific language is converted to a text string by tokenizing the string, distributing the tokens across a multi-level data structure to find possible distributions, and analyzing the combinations to find a valid distribution. The valid distribution may be interpreted to yield a numerical value based on the data structure. The data structure may be readily developed for any language.

Translation of text into numbers

A lightweight information user interface is provided for displaying information about a focused-on (e.g., mouse-over) text item, data item or other object in an electronic document that minimizes interruption of workflow with the electronic document. Upon focus on a word or other object in an electronic document a quick look-up function may be invoked for retrieving information from a local or remote information source about the focused-on item. Retrieved information, for example, translations, dictionary definitions and research information, is displayed in close proximity to the focused-on item in a lightweight information user interface. Information may be displayed according to a variety of media types including text, audio, video, pictures, bitmap images, etc.
