Methods and systems for providing real-time reporting of software usage includes an agent running on a local computer. The agent identifies new processes started on the computer and checks the new process against a restricted list. If the new process is on the restricted list, the agent automatically performs one or more restriction actions associated with the executable name of the process. The restricted list is contained in a configuration file stored on the local computer. A master configuration file for the local computer is stored on a server and replaces the configuration file when the configuration file is outdated. An authorized administrator may edit the master configuration file by adding or removing executable and DLL names from the restricted list and by adding or removing restriction actions associated with the executable and DLL names on the restricted list.

System and method for monitoring and controlling software usage in a computer

A system that includes one or more clients, databases and servers. The clients communicate with the servers using hyper-text transfer protocol. Each client includes a scheduling and monitoring agent. Each server includes several components. A first server component performs a plurality of functions, including receiving requests from the client(s) for configuration file verification information and storing in the database(s) a log of the requests. A second server component is capable of performing a plurality of functions, including receiving hardware and software inventory information, as well as software metering statistics, and storing the inventory information in at least one of the databases.

Method and system for identifying and conducting inventory of computer assets on a network

Active devices on a network are identified by simultaneously issuing to a plurality of worker threads a request for information identifying the devices. The worker threads are capable of performing identical functions in response to the request for information. Based on device architecture information provided in response to the request for information, a plurality of customized scripts are identified and executed, which request additional information about the device.
