A customer edge device is connected, in a multi-homed configuration, to a device via a downlink of the device and to another device via another downlink of the other device. The device may determine that each of one or more uplinks of the device has an inactive interface status and may thereby cause the downlink of the device to be down. This may cause the customer edge device to communicate network traffic via the other downlink of the other device. The device may determine that at least one uplink, of the one or more uplinks, has an active interface status and may thereby cause the downlink to be up. This may cause the customer edge device to communicate network traffic via the downlink of the device.

Controlling downlink interface configuration based on uplink interface network and protocol state

A device may cause a Media Access Control Security (MACsec) session to be established on a first link of a link aggregation group (LAG) that includes a plurality of links with a different device. The device may cause a data structure to be updated to identify the first link as a MACsec enabled LAG link and may send traffic via the first link. The device may cause a MACsec session to be established on at least one additional link of the LAG and may cause the data structure to be updated to identify the at least one additional link as a MACsec enabled LAG link. The device may send, after causing the data structure to be updated to identify the at least one additional link as a MACsec enabled LAG link, additional traffic via the first link and the at least one additional link.

A power sourcing equipment may provide fault detection, fault recovery, and redundancy in a Power over Ethernet system. The power sourcing equipment may apply voltage to an data port to transmit at least an amount of power requested by a powered device to the powered device over each of a plurality of pairs of wires of an data cable operably coupled to the data port. The power sourcing equipment may identify an occurrence of a fault in one or more pairs of wires out of the plurality of pairs of wires making up the data cable. The power sourcing equipment may, in response to identifying the occurrence of the fault, perform power recovery to supply the amount of power requested by the powered device to the powered device over a remaining one or more pairs of wires.

Fault detection and power recovery and redundancy in a power over ethernet system

A first network device may determine a first auto-negotiation capability associated with the first network device. The first auto-negotiation capability may indicate whether the first network device is configured to establish a communication link with a second network device using auto-negotiation of transmission capabilities. The first network device may determine a second auto-negotiation capability associated with the second network device. The second auto-negotiation capability may indicate whether the second network device is configured to establish the communication link with the first network device using auto-negotiation of the transmission capabilities. The first network device may determine that an auto-negotiation process failed to establish the communication link between the first network device and the second network device. The first network device may enable or disable auto-negotiation on the first network device based on determining that the auto-negotiation process failed, and based on the first auto-negotiation capability and the second auto-negotiation capability.
