A multi-band antenna system is provided. The antenna system can be placed under and embedded within a glass exterior surface of a vehicle. Such an antenna system can include a capacitively coupled metallic element on or adjacent to the glass exterior surface, which can serve as both a parasitic element to enhance gain and as a heating element to melt snow and/or ice accumulation over the glass area that covers the antenna. In certain applications, the antenna's structure itself can be used as a heater to improve performance in adverse weather conditions while the heating elements are positioned away from the thermally sensitive electronics. The antenna system with integrated heating can include a spiral antenna.

Multi-band antenna

Apparatus, system and method to provide switchable coils in a computing device, comprising: a plurality of electrically conductive coils to transfer electromagnetic energy; a sensor coupled to a processor, to select a coil from among the plurality of electrically conductive coils; a switch to energize the selected coil; and a switch controller coupled to the switch and to the processor. In some embodiments, the plurality of coils may comprise an inductive charging interface. Some embodiments may further include a communication interface between the processor to the plurality of electrically conductive coils, the plurality of coils comprising an interface for near-field communications (NFC). The antenna coils may be arranged to provide improved NFC coverage when the computing device is in a respective predetermined physical configuration. Sensors may be used to detect the configuration and switch NFC communications to use a preferred antenna coil for the detected configuration.

Coil for mobile device context-driven switching and wireless charging

Described herein are techniques related one or more systems, apparatuses, methods, etc. for integrating a near field communications (NFC) coil antenna in a portable device. For example, the NFC antenna is integrated under a metal chassis of the portable device. The metal chassis and a conductive coating&#x2014;that is integrated underneath the full metal chassis&#x2014;are designed to include one or more slots to provide high impedance to Eddy current induced in the conductive coating.

A method of wirelessly charging batteries of devices includes detecting at least two devices being simultaneously present on a charging mat. It is determined, for each of the at least two devices, whether the device is compatible with a wireless charging standard. It is determined, for each of the two devices, whether the device is enabled for a near field communication. Charging of the devices is prevented if at least one of the devices is enabled for a near field communication but not compatible with the wireless charging standard.

A sensor system can include a sensor coil and a sensor coupled to the sensor coil. The sensor coil can include coil portions that generate signals based on magnetic coupling induced in the coil portions by a receiving coil device (e.g., a NFC tag) and magnetic distortion induced in the coil portions by magnetic coupling of a power transmitting unit (PTU). The sensor can reduce the magnetic distortion induced in the first and the second coil portions by the PTU, detect the receiving coil device based the first and the second signals, and control the PTU based on the detected receiving coil device.

A touch panel for a display may include a touch sensor with a plurality of electrode traces. A first portion of the plurality of electrode traces may form sensing lines configured to receive touch input. The touch sensor includes an edge dummy area between an edge of the touch sensor and an electrode trace of a remaining portion of the plurality of electrode traces. The edge dummy area may be located outside of the sensing lines. The touch panel may further include an antenna with a radiation structure and a ground structure. The radiation structure may be located within a routing traces area outside of the touch sensor. The ground structure may be located within the edge dummy area. The ground structure may include an electrode trace of the plurality of electrode traces located within the edge dummy area of the touch sensor.

Hybrid display integratable antennas using touch sensor trace and edge discontinuity structures

Embodiments related to systems, methods, and computer-readable media to enable a power transmit unit (PTU) device are described. In one embodiment a PTU comprises a transmit coil configured for wireless charging via magnetic coupling, a power delivery system coupled to the transmit coil, signal processing circuitry to detect harmonic distortion that is induced in the transmit coil by a device inside the near field of the transmit coil, and control circuitry configured to adjust an output power of the power amplifier when triggered by a detection of an Near Field Communications (NFC) device, a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID), or any other such device which may be damaged by the energy emitted from the transmit coil.

Method and apparatus for PTU detection of NFC devices

A metal chassis for a mobile device is configured to transmit a signal of a wavelength. A first side of the chassis faces the inside of the mobile device and includes a first aperture that has a dimension that comprises a first subwavelength width of a slot in the chassis. A second side of the chassis faces free space and includes a second aperture that has a dimension that comprises a second subwavelength width of the slot in the chassis. A channel connects the first aperture and the second aperture. The slot has a length dimension and the channel may be centered along the length dimension. The channel is configured to support a transverse electromagnetic mode for propagation of the signal from the first aperture through the channel to the second aperture. As a part of a mobile device the chassis acts as a secondary radiator for the mobile device.

The disclosure relates generally to method, system and apparatus to optimize wireless charging to identify a proximal Near-Field Communication (NFC) tag and prevent damage by a magnetic wireless charging field. The disclosed embodiment provide different methods for NFC tag detection without impacting A4WP wireless charging. In an exemplary method, dedicated NFC reader is used to interleave the NFC and A4WP signals on the same coil. In one implementation the signals are frequency-multiplexed. In another implementation, the signals are time-multiplexed.

Method, system and apparatus to optimize A4WP wireless charging and NFC co-existence

The disclosure generally relates to a method and apparatus for energy harvest from a proximity coupling device (PCD) by a proximity integrated circuit card. In one embodiment, the PICC includes an integrated BLE. The BLE may be exclusively charged by the external magnetic field received from the PCD. The PCD may be configured to detect when the PICC is nearby and increase its duty cycle to thereby increase the magnetic field imposed on the PICC. The PICC may include circuitry to receive and convert the magnetic field to electric potential or voltage. The voltage may be store at a capacitor for BLE's usage.
