Optimal antenna swap implementations in RF front end modules for TDD bands

Diplexers and multiplexers for carrier aggregation are disclosed. In one aspect, a front end for receiving carrier aggregation radio frequency signals includes an antenna switch module configured to receive a first radio frequency signal in a first band and a second radio frequency signal in a second band from an antenna, and a diplexer including a first filter configured to pass the first band, a second filter configured to pass the second band, and a diplexed node between the first and second filters and coupled to the antenna switch module. The front end can further include a main amplifier coupled to the diplexed node of the diplexer and configured to amplify radio frequency signals received from the diplexer, and a transconductance stage coupled to the main amplifier and configured to independently control the gain of the main amplifier for the first band and the second band.

Radio frequency (RF) communication systems with interference cancellation for coexistence are provided herein. In certain embodiments, an RF communication system includes a transmitter including a power amplifier that amplifies an RF transmit signal, a receiver including a low noise amplifier (LNA) that amplifies an RF receive signal, and an interference cancellation circuit that selects a bandpass filter from a plurality of bandpass filters to filter the RF transmit signal after amplification by the power amplifier. The selected bandpass filter operates in combination with a controllable gain circuit and a controllable phase circuit to generate an analog interference cancellation signal that is injected into the receiver to compensate the RF receive signal for interference arising from the transmitter.

Radio frequency communication systems with interference cancellation for coexistence

Examples of the disclosure relate to a carrier aggregation circuit including a first path, a second path, and a switch assembly. The first path has a first filter configured to provide a matched impedance in a first frequency band. The second path has an adjustable matching network and a terminal for coupling to an external filter configured to provide a matched impedance in the second frequency band. The switch assembly is configured to adjust the adjustable matching network to provide a mismatched impedance in the first frequency band. Related methods for carrier aggregation, radio-frequency modules, and wireless devices are also provided.

In certain embodiments, a method of interference cancellation includes filtering a radio frequency (RF) transmit signal to generate a first RF feedback signal using a first filter of a front end system, filtering the RF transmit signal to generate a second RF feedback signal using a second filter of the front end system, processing the first RF feedback signal to generate a first digital interference cancellation signal using a first feedback receiver, processing the second RF feedback signal to generate a second digital interference cancellation signal using a second feedback receiver, and compensating an RF receive signal for interference based on the first digital interference cancellation signal and the second digital interference cancellation signal using a receiver.

Radio frequency front-end systems with filter reuse. In certain embodiments, a front-end system includes a filter, a low noise amplifier (LNA), and a switch interposed between the filter and an input to the LNA. In a first state of the switch, the filter serves to filter a radio frequency signal that is amplified by the LNA. The front-end system further includes a power amplifier that is coupled to the switch. Additionally, in a second state of the switch, the filter serves to filter an amplified radio frequency transmit signal provided by the power amplifier. Accordingly, a filter along a receive path of the front-end system is reused for transmit.

The radio frequency front-end systems herein include modules having bandwidth controllable components, such as amplifier and filters. By implementing the modules with bandwidth control, the same module can be used for operation of multiple frequency bands including a first frequency band and a second frequency band. Thus, when implementing features such as carrier aggregation, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), and/or sounding resource signaling (SRS) for supporting the multiple frequency bands, the total number of modules used can be reduced and/or additional feature support can be provided compared to an implementation in which each module supports a single frequency band.

Radio frequency (RF) communication systems with coexistence management are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a method of coexistence management in a mobile device includes processing a wireless local area network (WLAN) observation signal to generate WLAN observation data using a WLAN observation channel of a WLAN transceiver, processing an RF cellular receive signal to generate a digital baseband cellular receive signal using a cellular receive channel of a cellular transceiver, processing a cellular observation signal to generate cellular observation data using a cellular observation channel of the cellular transceiver, and compensating the digital baseband cellular receive signal for RF signal leakage based on the WLAN observation data and on the cellular observation data using a discrete time cancellation circuit of the cellular transceiver.

Antenna-plexers for interference cancellation are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a wireless device includes an antenna, an antenna-plexer coupled to the antenna and configured to generate a feedback signal, a transmitter configured to transmit a transmit signal to the antenna by way of the antenna-plexer, a receiver configured to process a receive signal, and a feedback receiver configured to process the feedback signal from the antenna-plexer to provide compensation to the receive signal.

In certain embodiments, an RF communication system includes a transmitter that transmits a transmit signal through a first front end circuit, a receiver that processes a receive signal from a second front end circuit, and a feedback receiver that processes a feedback signal from the first front end circuit to generate a digital interference cancellation signal that compensates the receiver for interference arising from the transmitter.
