An antenna assembly includes a tool mandrel having a tool axis; a first coil antenna including a first plurality of windings wrapped about the tool mandrel, wherein the first coil antenna is arranged in a first orientation and wherein portions of the first plurality of windings are wrapped about the tool mandrel at a first winding angle defined with respect to the tool axis; and a second coil antenna co-located with the first coil antenna and including a second plurality of windings wrapped about the tool mandrel, wherein the second coil antenna is arranged in a second orientation opposite the first orientation, wherein portions of the second plurality of windings are wrapped about the tool mandrel at a second winding angle defined with respect to the tool axis and wherein a difference between a loop area of the first coil antenna and a loop area of the second coil antenna is less than 25%.

Co-located antennas

Logging downhole exposes components of logging tools, for example, antennas to abrasive and erosive operating conditions. A protective sleeve may disposed about an antenna assembly to protect the antenna assembly for the downhole operating conditions. To permit transmission and receipt of signals by and too the antenna assembly, slots are formed or disposed in the protective sleeve. A non-conductive composite insert is formed in the slots to protect the internal components of the protective sleeve, for example, the antenna assembly, from the operation conditions. A non-conductive composite inner liner is formed in an annulus of the protective sleeve and adheres to the protective sleeve and the non-conductive composite insert. The non-conductive component insert and inner liner allow signals to be transmitted and received by the antenna assembly so that logging operations can be completed without undue delay and the expense of repairing or replacing worn or damaged components.

A tubular string includes a first tubular member with a pin end with pin threads and a pin external load shoulder. The tubular string also includes a second tubular member with a box end with a box external load shoulder and box threads, the pin threads being threadable into the box threads to form a connection, wherein the pin external load shoulder has an outer diameter (OD) that is different than an OD of the box external load shoulder. A load distribution sleeve is locatable between the first and second tubular members when threaded together and includes a first end facing the first tubular member and a second end facing the second tubular member, wherein the ODs of the load distribution sleeve first and second ends match the ODs of the pin and box external load shoulders respectively. The load distribution sleeve contacts the pin and box external load shoulders and distributes a make-up load between the pin and box external load shoulders when the connection is made up.

An electronics carrier to be disposed in a downhole tool is provided. The electronics carrier includes a chassis, and a receiver processing component disposed on the chassis. The receiver processing component is communicatively coupled to one or more receiver sensors, and the receiver processing component includes a receiver pre-amplifier. A transmitter processing component is disposed on the chassis. The transmitter processing component is communicatively coupled to one or more transmitter sensors. A shield is disposed on the chassis to prevent cross-talk between the transmitter processing component and the receiver processing component.

A tool that uses antennas to evaluate an environment surrounding a borehole, the tool including an antenna assembly, and the antenna assembly including a body with a longitudinal central axis, and an antenna mounted on the body in a continuous groove comprising a plurality of circumferential portions and a plurality of transition portions, with each of the circumferential portions being formed in a plane and each of the planes being spaced apart from each other and parallel to each other; and with each of the circumferential portions at least partially extending circumferentially around the body within its respective plane and each of the transition portions transitioning the groove from an end of one of the circumferential portions to an end of an adjacent one of the circumferential portions.

A magnetic flux receiver assembly includes a collar that defines a central passageway and an axial collar face, and a tool insert disposable within the central passageway and defining an axial insert face. One or more magnetometers are operatively coupled to the tool insert. One or more buttons are coupled to one or both of the axial collar face and the axial insert face such that an axial gap is defined at an axial interface between the axial collar face and the axial insert face to prevent electrical communication across the axial interface.

Electrical isolation to reduce magnetometer interference

A connector ring comprising a body extending along a longitudinal axis and two sets of sensor connectors. The first set of sensor connectors comprises one or more transmitter sensor connectors coupled with the body and extending parallel to the longitudinal axis, the one or more transmitter sensor connectors having a first end. The second set of sensor connectors comprises one or more receiver sensor connectors coupled with the body and extending parallel to the longitudinal axis, the one or more receiver sensor connectors having a first end. The first end of the transmitter sensor connectors and the first end of the receiver sensor connectors are staggered along the longitudinal axis.

Aspects of the subject technology relate to a circuit board mounting assembly for use in a downhole tool. The assembly can include a sleeve comprising a plurality of flaps and a circuit board disposed on the proximal end of the sleeve and secured by the plurality of flaps. The assembly can include a hollow housing comprising a shoulder on an interior surface of the housing at a proximal portion of the housing and a circuit board disposed on the shoulder of the housing. The assembly can further include a groove disposed on the interior surface and a ring disposed within the groove. The assembly can further include a threaded portion on the interior surface extending from a distal end of the housing and a nut threadedly engaged with the threaded portion of the housing. An example method for mounting a circuit board in a downhole tool can include disposing a circuit board on a shoulder of a housing, engaging a periphery of the circuit board, inserting the housing within a cavity of a downhole tool and installing a cap over the cavity to prevent removal of the housing from the downhole tool.

An antenna assembly that includes a bobbin including arcuate first and second bobbin portions positioned about a tool mandrel. A protective layer is formed about the first and second bobbin portions, and a cover occludes a portion of an axially extending gap defined between the first and second bobbin portions to prevent the protective layer from extruding into the gap.

Antenna designs for wellbore logging tools

An antenna assembly includes a bobbin positionable about an outer surface of a tool mandrel, and a coil wrapped about an outer bobbin surface of the bobbin and extending longitudinally along at least a portion of the outer bobbin surface. A plurality of ferrites are positioned within a groove defined in the outer surface of the tool mandrel, and the plurality of ferrites extend circumferentially about the outer surface and interpose the tool mandrel and the coil.

Antenna assemblies using ferrites for wellbore logging tools and a method of manufacturing

Apparatus, systems, and methods may operate to couple a power supply to a ground point associated with a well, and to a lower portion of a conductive casing disposed within the well, where the lower portion of the conductive casing is separated by an insulating gap from an upper portion of the conductive casing, the upper portion of the conductive casing being at a higher elevation of the first well than the lower portion of the conductive casing. Further activity may include injecting an excitation signal into the lower portion of the conductive casing to induce a magnetic field in a geological formation surrounding the first well. Blends of elastomer composites with unfilled or less highly filled elastomer reduces hysteresis without compromising reinforcement. Hysteresis may also be reduced by adjusting the compounding method.

Elastomer composites, blends and methods for preparing same

In some embodiments, a magnetometer mounting apparatus and system may reduce noise and magnetic flux interference by mounting the magnetometer inside a cavity in a collar that fits around a tool insert. The cavity may be sealed with a hatch cover/outsert. Another embodiment mounts a plurality of magnetometers around the periphery of a mounting ring that is coupled to the insert. Yet another embodiment mounts the magnetometers in a gap sub in the BHA. Still another embodiment longitudinally mounts the magnetometers on the insert such that a diagonal distance between two magnetometers is the greatest possible on the insert.

An antenna assembly for wellbore logging tools is provided. The antenna assembly includes a coil wrapped about an outer surface of a bobbin positioned within a saddle of a tool mandrel. The antenna assembly also includes an inner sleeve positioned on an outer surface of the tool mandrel within the saddle, the inner sleeve being interposed between the coil and the tool mandrel. The antenna assembly also includes a plurality of ferrite channels formed within a groove defined in an inner surface of the inner sleeve, in which the plurality of ferrite channels being laterally separated by a plurality of dividers formed in the groove. The antenna assembly also includes a plurality of ferrites disposed within respective ones of the plurality of ferrite channels.
