A magnetic resonance system is disclosed. The system includes a transceiver having a multichannel receiver and a multichannel transmitter, where each channel of the transmitter is configured for independent selection of frequency, phase, time, space, and magnitude, and each channel of the receiver is configured for independent selection of space, time, frequency, phase and gain. The system also includes a magnetic resonance coil having a plurality of current elements, with each element coupled in one to one relation with a channel of the receiver and a channel of the transmitter. The system further includes a processor coupled to the transceiver, such that the processor is configured to execute instructions to control a current in each element and to perform a non-linear algorithm to shim the coil.

A system and method for automatically adjusting electrical performance of a radio frequency (RF) coil assembly of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system during a medical imaging process of a subject to control changes in loading conditions of the RF coil caused by the subject during the medical imaging process.

System and method for control of RF circuits for use with an MRI system

Systems and methods for beamforming algorithms for transmit-receive parallel magnetic resonance imaging ('pMRI') applications are described. For any transmit configuration (e.g., using a single or multiple transmit elements) a weighted sum of the complex image data from each receiver is formed with a spatially-varying weighting. The weighting factor is obtained by solving an optimal refocusing problem at a set of points in the image space, which can include all the pixels in the image. The optimal refocusing of the transmit-receive configuration accounts for the spatially-varying SNR in deriving the coefficients of the weighted sum at every image pixel.

System and method for parallel magnetic resonance image reconstruction using digital beamforming

In some embodiments, an optical coupler comprises a substrate, and first and second optical waveguides positioned on the substrate. The second optical waveguide extends adjacent to and parallel with the first optical waveguide for at least one effective coupling length, the at least one length having a first end and a second end. The coupler further comprises a first phase shift section forming a portion of the first optical waveguide and located at a first predetermined distance from the first end of the length, and a second phase shift section forming a portion of the second optical waveguide and located at a second predetermined distance from the second end of the length, wherein the first predetermined distance is approximately equal to the second predetermined distance, and wherein the second optical waveguide does not have a phase shift section located at the first predetermined distance from the first end of the length.

Optical coupler

A communication includes an analog input configured to receive an analog signal. An analog to digital converter configured to provides a digital signal output based upon the analog input. A modulator is configured to modulate a laser based upon the digital signal thereby generating a modulated optical signal. An optical fiber carries the modulated optical signal and an optical detector arranged to receive the modulated optical signal from the optical fiber and provide a received output. A digital to analog converter digitizes the received output and provides an analog output based respective of the analog signal provided to the analog input.

Technology for controlling non-uniformity in the Bfield includes selecting the phase, magnitude, frequency, time, or spatial relationship among various elements of a multi-channel excitation coil in order to control the radio frequency (RF) power emanating from the coil antenna elements. Non-uniformity can be used to steer a constructively interfering Bfield node to spatially correlate with an anatomic region of interest. A convex (quadratically constrained quadratic problem) formulation of the Blocalization problem can be used to select parameters for exciting the coil. Localization can be used in simulated Finite Difference Time Domain Bfield human head distributions and human head phantom measurement.

Radio frequency field localization for magnetic resonance

A method of making a photonic crystal includes obtaining single spheres for use in making a self assembled opal structure. Spherical particles are placed centrifuge and separated from doublets using a relative difference in sedimentation velocity in response to centrifugal force. A method includes drawing a substrate through a meniscus at a declination to uniformly deposit spheres on the substrate. Three-dimensional photonic crystals including buried waveguides are also provided.

A vertical cavity surface emitting laser, includes a first mirror, a second mirror and an active region positioned between the first and second mirrors and optically coupled to the mirrors. An increased index of refraction region in the first mirror extends in a direction generally perpendicular to the active region. The increased index of refraction region having a refractive index which is greater than a remaining portion of the first mirror and configured to produce substantially a single optical mode in the laser.

A vertical cavity surface emitting laser, includes a substrate, a lower mirror stacked adjacent the substrate, an active region operably coupled to the lower mirror stack, and an upper mirror operably coupled to the active region, opposite the lower mirror. The lower mirror, active region, and upper mirror are arranged in a vertical stack to form a laser. A plurality of spaced apart regions of increased refractive index which extend in a vertical direction at least partially through the vertical stack to promote single mode confinement in the stack.

A waveguide optical amplifier include a substrate and a guiding or active layer. The substrate has a substrate surface and a substrate index of refraction. The guiding layer is of Zirconium dioxide (ZrO.sub.2) and/or Alumina (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3) and is carried on a cladding layer over the substrate surface. The guiding layer has a guiding layer index of refraction which is higher than the cladding index of refraction. The Zirconium dioxide guiding layer is doped with rare earth materials.

Waveguide optical amplifier

The present invention includes an optical fiber amplifier having a core and cladding layer. The core includes Zirconium dioxide (ZrO.sub.2) and a rare earth material. The core may be co-deposited with SiO.sub.2. A co-dopant of Ytterbium (Yb) may also be used. The optical fiber amplifier is well suited for use in the 1300 nm band when pumped with an optical source of appropriate power and frequency.
