A method manages an electrical energy storage battery comprising first and second branches in parallel and each having N storage elements in series. The method includes providing a non-dissipative balancing device for balancing electrical voltages at terminals of the storage elements. The device includes N+1 switching elements of a first type to electrically connect, in parallel, two storage elements belonging to first and second branches at a same stage, and 2N switching elements of a second type to electrically connect, in parallel, two storage elements belonging to first and second branches at adjacent stages. The method also includes choosing only a portion of the storage elements of the first branch, choosing only a portion of the storage elements of the second branch, and controlling the switching elements so as to electrically connect to one another, in parallel, the selected storage elements of the first and second branches.

Balancing of a battery having two branches, with bridging of differential numbers of storage elements

A system and method estimates the state of charge of a battery comprising at least two modules each provided with at least one cell. A sensor senses a series current flowing through all cells of the modules connected in series. A switching device selectively disconnects one of the modules, the other modules remaining connected in series. A calculator calculates the state of charge of the cells through which the series current flows from the integration of the series current and calculates the state of charge of each of the cells of the disconnected module from an open circuit voltage thereof.

System and corresponding method for estimating the charge status of a battery

A battery of accumulators including a plurality of power storage cells and an electrical network which connects the cells to one another. The cells are grouped together in composite cells including two identical branches each including at least one cell and the composite cells being connected in series to one another. The electrical network includes: a mechanism for parallel or connection in series of the cells of each composite cell, and a mechanism for controlling the connection mechanism, which is configured to connect the cells of each composite cell in parallel or in series to adapt an output voltage of the battery of accumulators to a desired value and to balance charging states of the cells.

A method for estimating a state of charge of a battery including plural cells connected in series, including: determination, at a given time, of a minimum cell voltage and of a maximum cell voltage from among the cell voltages, and calculation of a physical quantity analytically depending on the minimum and maximum cell voltages according to an equation including weighting elements ensuring the weight associated with the maximum cell voltage increases when the state of charge of the associated cell increases, and the weight associated with the minimum cell voltage increases when the state of charge of the associated cell decreases.

Estimating of the state of charge of a battery

Disclosed herein is an invention concerning a method for managing charging of a Li-ion battery based on at least one parameter chosen from a group consisting of a state of deterioration of the Li-ion battery and cell unbalance, the method comprising the following steps: a) determining an end-of-charge voltage value of said Li-ion battery, b) generating a control signal controlling the charging of said Li-ion battery, and c) transmitting the control signal to a charger, the control signal being generated in such a way that the Li-ion battery is charged based on the end-of-charge voltage value determined in step a), said end-of-charge voltage value being increased based on the state of deterioration of said Li-ion battery until a limit value is reached, in order to ensure a constant minimal level of required energy in said Li-ion battery is provided at a predetermined reference temperature.
