A system and method for the color correction of an image using three-dimensional, geometrical information of the capture environment of the image includes determining geometrical properties of at least a portion of the image and modifying a look of at least the portion of the image by altering a value of at least one of the determined geometrical properties and using image formation theory. In one embodiment of the present invention, the geometrical properties of the image include at least one of light properties, surface color, reflectance properties, and scene geometry of the at least one portion of the image. In accordance with the present invention, the geometrical properties of the image are alternatively determined by using sensing devices, by inferring the geometrical properties from the image itself, or by user input.

Method and system for color correction using three-dimensional information

The invention provides a system and method for integrating multimedia descriptions in a way that allows humans, software components or devices to easily identify, represent, manage, retrieve, and categorize the multimedia content. In this manner, a user who may be interested in locating a specific piece of multimedia content from a database, Internet, or broadcast media, for example, may search for and find the multimedia content. In this regard, the invention provides a system and method that receives multimedia content and separates the multimedia content into separate components which are assigned to multimedia categories, such as image, video, audio, synthetic and text. Within each of the multimedia categories, the multimedia content is classified and descriptions of the multimedia content are generated. The descriptions are then formatted, integrated, using a multimedia integration description scheme, and the multimedia integration description is generated for the multimedia content. The multimedia description is then stored into a database. As a result, a user may query a search engine which then retrieves the multimedia content from the database whose integration description matches the query criteria specified by the user. The search engine can then provide the user a useful search result based on the multimedia integration description.

Methods, systems, and media for ranking content items using topics are provided. In some embodiments, a method for ranking video content is provided, comprising: receiving a search query; generating a plurality of search results in response to the search query; determining one or more entity types associated with a content class within the plurality of search results; determining whether the search query is a query for content belonging to the content class based on a plurality of criterion that includes: (i) determining whether at least one of the plurality of search results is associated with the one or more determined entity types and (ii) determining whether entities shared between the plurality of search results include the one or more determined entity types; and in response to determining that the plurality of criterion have been met, promoting at least one search result of the plurality of search results belonging to the content class.

Methods, systems, and media for ranking content items using topics

A system and method for measuring the potential eyestrain felt by audiences while watching a 3D presentation, e.g., a stereoscopic motion picture, are provided. The eyestrain measurement system and method of the present disclosure is based on the measurement of disparity (or depth) and disparity transition of stereoscopic images of the 3D presentation. The system and method of the present disclosure provide for acquiring a first image and a second image from a first segment, estimating disparity of at least one point in the first image with at least one corresponding point in the second image, estimating disparity transition of a sequence of first and second images, and determining potential eyestrain felt while viewing the 3D presentation based on the disparity and the disparity transition of the sequence of the first and second images.

System and method for measuring potential eyestrain of stereoscopic motion pictures

Timely delivery of electronic messages during a presentation is a valuable tool. The embodiments describe a method and apparatus for delivering electronic messages. One method includes creating the electronic message by identifying auxiliary media content associated with a main presentation and marking temporal locations within the main presentation to allow delivery of electronic messages based on auxiliary media content. Another method includes receiving a package containing first and second content, separating the first content from the second content, providing the first content on a first medium, and providing an electronic message based on the second content on a second medium. Finally, a composition playlist includes a main presentation file and an auxiliary content file containing temporal links associated with the main presentation with the auxiliary content file to be delivered as an electronic message at a predetermined time based on the temporal links during presentation of the main presentation file.

Method and apparatus for electronic message delivery

At least one particular method and apparatus provide an enhanced quality low resolution image extracted from a scalable high resolution bit stream in a DCP bit stream. In various implementations, an enhancement layer is used to produce the enhanced low resolution image. The enhancement layer may include, for example, spatial-domain or frequency-domain information to be used to enhance the typical low resolution image extracted from a DCP bit stream. One specific process includes encoding a digital image into an encoded image. The encoded image is capable of being processed to provide a higher resolution decoding of the digital image and to provide a lower resolution decoding of the digital image. The process further includes encoding additional information for enhancing the lower resolution decoding to provide an enhanced lower resolution image. A complimentary signal and decoding process are also provided, as well as structures for performing the processes.

A system and method for recovering three-dimensional (3D) particle systems from two-dimensional (2D) images are provided. The system and method of the present invention provide for identifying a fuzzy object in a two-dimensional (2D) image; selecting a particle system from a plurality of predetermined particle systems, the selected particle system relating to a predefined fuzzy object; generating at least one particle of the selected particle system; simulating the at least one particle to update states of the at least one particle; rendering the selected particle system; comparing the rendered particle system to the identified fuzzy object in the 2D image; and storing the selected particle system if the comparison result is within an acceptable threshold, wherein the stored particle system represents the recovered geometry of the fuzzy object.

System and method for recovering three-dimensional particle systems from two-dimensional images

A system and method for color correction of 3D images including at least two separate image streams captured for a same scene include determining three-dimensional properties of at least a portion of a selected image stream, the three-dimensional properties including light and surface reflectance properties, surface color, reflectance properties, scene geometry and the like. A look of the portion of the selected image stream is then modified by altering the value of at least one of the determined three-dimensional properties and, in one embodiment, applying image formation theory. The modifications are then rendered in an output 3D picture either automatically and/or according to user inputs. In various embodiments, corrections made to the selected one of the at least two image streams can be automatically applied to the other of the image streams.

Methods and systems for color correction of 3D images

A device and method direct towards the packaging, transporting and extracting of essence files, metadata files and service data files are provided. The device and method include receiving content files (e.g., essence and metadata files) and service files, the service files identifying an application to be applied to the content files, combining the content files and the service files into a media package, and transmitting the media package. The device and method also include receiving the media package containing content files and service files and extracting the content files and the service files from the media package. The media package may further include command data that describes how to process the content files and the service files as well as identification data that identifies the content files and service files. The command data, and content and service files may be encrypted.

A method, apparatus and system for synchronizing between two recording modes includes identifying a common event in the two recording modes. The event in time is recognized for a higher accuracy mode of the two modes. The event is predicted in a lower accuracy mode of the two modes by determining a time when the event occurred between frames in the lower accuracy mode. The event in the higher accuracy mode is synchronized to the lower accuracy mode to provide sub-frame accuracy alignment between the two modes. In one embodiment of the invention, the common event includes the closing of a clap slate, and the two modes include audio and video recording modes.

Method and system for subframe accurate synchronization

A method and system for modeling light in time and space are provided. The method and system of the present disclosure collect light readings, e.g., on a motion picture set, at different positions and times to build a light model to be used for visual effects (VFX) compositing. The light model represents the light distribution across space and/or time for a predetermined physical space. Using the light model, the lighting can then be predicted or interpolated at intermediate or other positions and/or times for which no specific light readings were obtained. The light models can be used for rendering objects (e.g., natural or CG elements) in a scene as if they were in that space.
