A surgical head support device. A head cushion supports the patient's head while the patient is lying in the prone position during surgery. An air conditioning unit is adjacent to the head cushion and provides temperature control to the head cushion. A camera is positioned for viewing the patient's face as the patient is lying in the prone position on the head cushion. A secretion container is positioned to collect discharge from the patient's nose and mouth as the patient is lying in the prone position on the head cushion. A support platform is positioned under the head cushion and provides support for the head cushion, the camera and the secretion container. A height adjustment device is positioned under the support platform and is utilized to adjust the height of the head cushion for the safety and comfort of the patient.

Surgical head support

In a bilateral bite block, a broad upper component extends bilaterally between a front end and a back end for overlying a person's tongue and at least some of the person's lower molars and for underlying at least some of the person's upper molars. Molar blocks extend downward from both sides of the broad upper component and are disposed for contacting the person's lower molars. A groove is disposed within a top surface of a handle and the broad upper component for receiving an endotracheal tube. An aperture is disposed within the groove in the broad upper component for grasping a received endotracheal tube that can extend within the groove from the handle to beyond the back end of the upper component so that a received endotracheal tube that extends within the groove can contact the person's tongue and thereby enhance the grasp of the endotracheal tube.

Bilateral bite block

Apparatus that allows at least one feature of a patient's face to be observed while the patient is in a prone position includes a facial cushion, a video camera and a monitor. The facial cushion provides cranial support for a patient in a prone position during a medical procedure. The cushion has a frontal aperture that is dimensioned so that the facial feature of a patient wearing the facial cushion and in a prone position are visible through the at least one aperture. The video camera has a lens disposed for providing a sequence of video signals representing sequential images of the facial features that are visible through the frontal aperture. The monitor is coupled to the video camera for enabling the images of the at least one facial feature to be monitored. The images are monitored by a video monitor and/or a computer.

Video observation of a patient's face during a medical procedure while the patient is in a prone position

Apparatus that allows at least one feature of a patient's face to be observed while the patient is in a prone position includes a facial cushion, a video camera and a monitor. A self supporting facial cushion provides cranial support for a patient in a prone position during a medical procedure. The cushion has a frontal aperture that is dimensioned so that the facial feature of a patient wearing the facial cushion and in a prone position are visible through the at least one aperture. A portion of the facial cushion that contacts a supporting surface when the facial cushion is self supported defines a tunnel through which at least the lens of the video camera can be inserted for movement from outside the facial cushion to a position beneath the patient's face.

A support for the head of a patient lying in a generally prone position. The support features a tray adapted for support on an underlying operating table surface. A plurality of pins projecting from an engagement with the tray are positioned to engage and suspend either a cushion directly or a cushion engaged in a casing. The pins may be adjusted to raise or lower the engaged cushion or casing. A mirror is also provided to provide a reflective view a patient's eyes through slots in the cushion and casing engaged over a patient's face. A video camera may also concurrently be employed to capture electronic images of the patient's eyes and mouth through an aperture in the mirror.

Apparatus for supporting a person's head in a selected position includes a flexible shaft that will maintain its shape when reconfigured for enabling a person's head to be supported in a selected position and a first coupler attached to one end of the shaft for coupling a replaceable chinrest to the one end of the shaft in a releasable restraining engagement. The first coupler includes a protuberance that is shaped for fitting within a cavity of the replaceable chinrest. The first coupler is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the shaft. A second coupler is attached to the other end of the shaft for coupling a replaceable support base to the other end of the shaft in a releasable restraining engagement. The second coupler includes a protuberance having a shape that is functionally equivalent to the shape of the protuberance of the first coupler.

Flexible head support with replaceable chinrest

A protective eye guard includes a flexible facial mask, a pair of eye covers, a sponge-like material and a layer of shielding material. The facial mask is configured and sized to overlay the portion of a patient's face surrounding the eyes and has a pair of openings overlying the eyes. The eye covers overlie the openings in the facial mask. Within the openings, a pair of enclosed chambers overlying the patient's eyes are defined beneath the respective eye covers. The sponge-like material is disposed in each chamber for absorbing a liquid that disperses and absorbs the energy of a laser beam. The layer of shielding material is an aluminum foil, which is disposed beneath the sponge-like material and overlies the openings for shielding the patient's eyes from the liquid and for also further shielding the patient's eyes from said laser beam.
