Substituted oxetanes, method of making, and method of use thereof

A method for crosslinking one or more molecules comprises crosslinking the one or more molecules with a photactivatable crosslinker by one-photon or multi-photon excitation, wherein the crosslinker comprises at least two photoactive groups linked by a bridging moiety, and further wherein the point volume of the activation has at least one dimension of less than about 1 micron. A method of oxidizing an organic alcohol, wherein the organic alcohol is contacted with a stoichiometric excess of oxygen in the presence of an effective catalytic amount of a maganese-containing octahedral molecular sieve or octahedral layer. Primary alcohols are selectively oxidized to aldehydes, and secondary alcohols are selectively oxidized to ketones.
