The systems and methods described herein relate to remote cooling. More particularly, the systems described herein include a side to be cooled coupled to an object to be cooled, and a side where heat is dissipated at a distant location. The side to be cooled includes a thermodynamic energy converter and a coil that is electrically coupled to the thermodynamic energy converter. The side where heat is dissipated includes a coil configured to inductively couple with the coil of the side to be cooled. The side where heat is dissipated also includes a heating element electrically coupled to the second coil. The heating element is configured to convert electrical energy into thermal energy. The thermodynamic energy converter absorbs thermal energy from the object to be cooled and converts, directly or indirectly, the thermal energy into electrical energy. The electrical energy is transmitted from the side to be cooled to the side where heat is dissipated by wirelessly coupling the cold and side where heat is dissipated coils. At the side where heat is dissipated, the electrical energy is converted back into thermal energy by the heating element, and the thermal energy is dissipated.

Aspects are generally directed to a compact and low-noise electric field detector, methods of operation, and methods of production thereof. In one example, an electric field detector includes a proof mass, a source of concentrated charge coupled to the proof mass, and a substrate having a substrate offset space defined therein, the proof mass being suspended above the substrate offset space. The electric field detector further includes a sense electrode disposed on the substrate within the substrate offset space and proximate the proof mass, the sense electrode being configured to measure a change in capacitance relative to the proof mass from movement of the proof mass in response to a received electric field at the source of concentrated charge. The electric field detector includes a control circuit coupled to the sense electrode and configured to determine a characteristic of the electric field based on the measured change in capacitance.

This disclosure provides systems and methods for delivering a neural stimulation pulse. A neural implant device can include an energy harvesting circuit configured to receive an input signal and generate an electrical signal based on the received input signal. A diode rectifier in series with the energy harvesting circuit can rectify the electrical signal. The energy harvesting circuit and the diode rectifier can be encapsulated within a biocompatible electrically insulating material. A neural electrode can be exposed through the biocompatible electrically insulating material. The neural electrode can be configured to deliver a neural stimulation pulse. The neural implant device can have a volume that is less than about 1.0 cubic millimeter.

A reduced radar cross section (RCS) antenna does not require housing the antennas in a radar-mitigating radome. Elements of the antenna are made from, or include, frequency selective surfaces that reduce reflection of radar or other signals. In some embodiments, the frequency selective surfaces are electrically tunable, thereby enabling a user or system to dynamically adjust the frequency or frequencies that are mitigated.

A structure includes a high-strength nanowire core with a first electrically-conductive metal layer bonded to an outer surface thereof. An insulating layer is bonded to an outer surface of the first electrically-conductive metal layer, and a second electrically-conductive metal layer is bonded to an outer surface of the insulating layer. The nanowires are braided into a litz bundle, which reduces electrical losses during transmission of high-frequency current.

An environmental physical sensor is provided that includes a power input terminal, a sensor output terminal, and a resonant switch. The resonant switch includes a mechanical element that is responsive to an environmental stimulus and is coupled to an electrical switch. The electrical switch is operable between an open position and a closed position and electrically connects the power input terminal to the sensor output terminal when in the closed position. The mechanical element is configured to intermittently actuate the electrical switch into the closed position responsive to the environmental stimulus.

A method of fabricating ultra-thin semiconductor devices includes forming an array of semiconductor dielets mechanically suspended on a frame with at least one tether connecting each semiconductor dielet of the array of semiconductor dielets to the frame.

Method for realizing ultra-thin sensors and electronics with enhanced fragility

An ultra-low noise sensor for magnetic fields comprises a mechanically resonant structure having a magnetized proof mass. The displacement of the proof mass due to a magnetic field provides a high resolution and highly amplified measurement of magnetic field fluctuations near the resonance frequency. A flux modulator may be used with the resonant structure to amplify magnetic fluctuations in a non-resonant frequency band. The resonant structure, combined with a high resolution readout device and a frequency-compensating numerical processor, can amplify magnetic fluctuations in a broad range of frequencies. A solenoid coil surrounding the resonant structure may be used to null the quasi-static earth's magnetic field and thereby increase the dynamic range of the sensor. Cryogenically cooling the resonant structure can improve the resolution of the sensor. A magnetometer that embodies features of the present invention is miniaturized and has improved amplification and resolution at room temperature.

Ultra-low noise sensor for magnetic fields

A zero power radio frequency (RF) activated wake up device is provided. The device is based on a high-Q MEMS demodulator that filters an amplitude-modulated RF tone of interest from the entire spectrum while producing a much higher voltage signal suitable to trigger a high-Q MEMS resonant switch tuned to the modulation frequency of the RF tone.

Zero power radio frequency receiver

A method of forming a planar, low loss electrical component such as an inductor or transmission line is provided. A channel can be formed on a top surface of a substrate. A threading plate can be positioned on an upper surface of the channel. A wire or fiber can be introduced through the substrate, the channel, and the threading plate. The wire or fiber can then be guided into the channel using the threading plate. The substrate and the threading plate can then be removed.

In various embodiments, an actuating mechanism is employed to displace a conductor disposed within a fluidic channel, thereby reconfiguring an electronic component.

In various embodiments, an inductance of an inductor is tuned by adjusting a position of a conductor and/or a magnetic material with respect to a conducting wire of the inductor, thereby changing the electro-magnetic characteristics of the conducting wire. The conductor and/or magnetic material can be disposed in a microfluidic channel and can be moved within the microfluidic channel using a suitable actuator mechanism.
