Helmet face shield

Known protective helmets used for motorcycle riding, flying and snowmobiling employ transparent visors that have heating elements to reduce and attempt to eliminate the build-up of ice, condensation and fog. A double-lensed face shield is provided with a pair of electrodes formed on an inner face lens, in the air pocket formed between the inner face lens and the outer weather lens. Substantially across one entire surface of the inner face lens is formed an electroconductive film. An upper electrode extends from a first end along an upper margin of the inner face lens on the film to a second end. On the opposite lower margin extends on the film a lower electrode from a first end to a second end. An insulated contact passes from one side of the inner lens to the other and connects the first end of the lower electrode with a conductor which extends on the opposite side of the inner lens towards the first end of the upper electrode. Power supplied across the first end of the upper electrode and the tail end of the conductor will result in electrical flow across the film inhibiting fog, ice and frost. Also provided is an assembly to permit the installation of face shields on helmets of different sizes and with openings of different configurations.

Double lens electric shield

A combination of a special swab applicator, a containment vial therefor and a cap for the vial is provided. An elongate vial containing a culture preserving media has one open end and a closed end and threads about its circumference at the open end. The cap has a threaded rim for attachment to the vial and a central section closing off the area inside the rim. The central section has an axially extending bore portion that snuggly fits an end of the swab applicator. The swab applicator has a long shaft with a first section having a length corresponding approximately to the length of the vial and a second section joined to the first by a frangible joint. After use of the applicator it is inserted into the vial and the second section is broken off. The cap is then threaded onto the vial to seal it and capture the first section.

An exercise device includes an elastic tube and a pair of elongate handles, each conveniently formed as a unitary member with no moving parts, integrally molded of a plastic. Each handle has a generally cylindrical outer surface and a pair of longitudinal slots formed internally of the outer surface in essentially spaced-apart, side-by-side relationship. The internal slots are dimensioned to grip the outer surface of the tube and have internal longitudinal ribs which enhance the gripping effect. A pair of transverse open-ended access slots are formed in the outer handle surface, each accessing one of the internal longitudinal slots to permit insertion and subsequent longitudinal displacement of the tube in the respective internal slot. An end of the tube is inserted transversely into one internal slot, wrapped through a 180 degree bend about a handle portion separating the internal slots, and then inserted transversely into the other longitudinal slot. Any tension in the elastic tube which initiates slippage of a tube end at one of the handles increases the frictional engagement of the tube end with the handle portion between the slots thereby increasing resistance to further slippage. The gripping action is sufficient that no additional clamping or holding mechanism is required to ensure that the exercise device does not come apart during use.

A mandril for mounting a cone used for winding thread or the like comprising in combination, a first cone-like member having a substantially conical outer surface, the member adapted to receive a shaft therein for use in mounting the mandril, the conical outer surface having abutment means thereon selectively extendable outwardly therefrom to thereby provide selectively, a protuberance on the conical outer surface and a second member, adapted to enter within the first member, means on the second member adapted to engage means on the first member when the first and second members are assembled together, to ensure locking and driving engagement therebetween, the second member also having means thereon cooperatively engageable with the abutment means and arranged such that, in a first position relative to the first member, the abutment means will not be extended by the means but in a second position relative to the first member, the abutment means will be extended by the means, outwardly of the surface to thereby provide the protuberance on the conical outer surface for use in positively securing the cone upon the mandril for driving engagement therewith.

A traffic signal housing particularly suitable for moulding modular units frm engineering thermoplastics. The back body portion is generally cylindrical; each end portion of the cylinder is reinforced with radial webbing connecting to a coaxial inner cylinder, thus forming a stiff load transfer structure extending into the housing to a depth of about 10 percent. The peripheral edges of a one load transfer structure are shaped to mate and seal with those of an adjacent unit. Units are coupled with a pipe bolt passing through adjacent inner cylinders to place the reinforced ends under compression. Thus assembled units have a great rigidity and load may be transmitted without the undue flexing or cracking common in prior known units.
