Mild aqueous detergent, e.g., shampoo, compositions are disclosed based on a mixture comprising anionic surfactant and amphoteric surfactant, such as betaines, present in the composition at a level of from about 0.75 to 1.25 parts by weight per part by weight of anionic surfactant. The compositions also contain one or a mixture of therapeutic agents such as climbazole or a mixture of climbazole and one or more co-therapeutics such as salicylic acid. The combination of mild surfactant system and therapeutic agent serve to prevent or treat mild skin disorders such as scalp itch and scalp irritation when applied to the scalp as a shampoo. Shampoo compositions also preferably contain one or more conditioning agents and suitable suspending agents.

A single phase hair conditioning composition having improved hair conditioning properties is described which contains, by weight, about 0.8% to 1.4% of a water-soluble nonionic cellulose polymer thickener, about 0.5% to 2.0% of a dipolar solvent such as propylene glycol, about 0.2% to 3.0% of a mono-C12-C22 alkyl, monomethyl ethoxy substituted quaternary ammonium salt conditioning agent, about 0.2% to 2.5% of a C10-C18 alkyl ethoxy methyl carboxylic acid conditioning agent having 1 to 23 ethoxy groups in the molecule and an aqueous medium, said composition being free of water-insoluble alkanol conditioners and of conditioning amounts of silicone conditioners. The mixture of ethoxy substituted quaternary ammonium salt conditioner and ethoxy methyl carboxylic acid conditioner provides enhanced hair conditioning results. Preferred compositions include one of more of the following: a mono C8-C18 alkyl tri-C1-C3 alkyl quaternary ammonium salt conditioner, a water-soluble cationic polymer conditioner, an alkanol ethoxylate nonionic conditioner and a dimethicone copolyol. Also within the scope of the invention is the method of conditioning the hair which employs the foregoing single phase composition.

The present invention provides an effective conditioning shampoo composition which is free of conditioning amounts of silicone conditioning agents. It comprises: A) about 5% to about 40% of a detersive surfactant mixture of an anionic detergent and an amphoteric surfactant, the weight ratio of the anionic detergent to the amphoteric surfactant being in the range of about 10:1 to 0.8:1; B) about 0.05% to about 6% of a conditioning agent selected from the group consisting of 0.05% to 5% of a complex of essentially equimolar amounts of a C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 (EtO).sub.1-10 carboxylic acid, and a C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 alkyl (EtO).sub.0-10 dimethyl amine; 0.05% to 1.0% of a polyquaternary compound selected from the group consisting of a quaternized cellulosic polymer and a mixture of the quaternized cellulosic polymer with a non-cellulosic quaternary conditioning polymer; and mixtures of the foregoing; C) 0.1% to 1% of a static control mixture of a quaternary ammonium salt having the formula R.sub.9, R.sub.10, R.sub.11, R.sub.12 N.sup.+ X.sup.- wherein R.sub.9 is a C.sub.l4 -C.sub.18 alkyl, R.sub.10 and R.sub.11 are each a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, R.sub.12 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or benzyl and X.sup.- is a salt forming cation selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, methosulfate and ethosulfate; and a di-quaternary ammonium salt having the formula (R.sub.13).sub.2 R.sub.14 R.sub.15 N.sup.+ X.sup.- wherein R.sub.13 is a C.sub.14 -C.sub.18 alkyl or alkylene group and R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are each a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group or a (CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n H group with at least one of R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 being a (CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n H group, n is an integer from 2 to 20 and X is a cation as set forth above, the weight ratio of the monoalkyl quaternary salt to dialkyl quaternary salt being from about 1:4 to 4:1; and D) an aqueous medium. These compositions exhibit enhanced antistatic properties as compared to the same compositions containing either the monoalkyl quaternary salt or the dialkyl quaternary salt as the sole antistatic ingredient.

Low static conditioning shampoo

Composition useful as 2-in-1 cleansing products are disclosed that are extremely mild to skin and hair, which use neutralized, essentially chargeless, ionic complexes of fatty amines and fatty acids to deliver various levels of conditioning; neutralized, essentially chargeless, ionic complexes of a detersive surfactant comprising a water soluble cationic surfactant and/or polymer complexed with one or more anionic surfactants; or an amphoteric surfactant complexed with one or more anionic surfactants; or a water soluble cationic surfactant and/or polymer complexed with one or more amphoteric surfactants; or a water soluble cationic surfactant and/or polymer complexed with one or more anionic surfactants and an amphoteric surfactant; detersive surfactant-soluble but water-insoluble silicones or derivatives thereof; and water. These products exhibit true 2-in- conditioning properties, and are lower in cost than current 2 in 1 products. Clear or opacified products can be formulated.

Mild foaming and conditioning detergents

A mild, non-irriatating hair conditioning shampoo is disclosed comprising an aqueous dispersion of a water-insoluble lipid phase, an anionic hair cleansing surfactant, an amphoteric surfactant present at a level of at least about 0.75 parts by weight per part by weight of said anionic surfactant, at least one hair conditioning, film forming, polycationic polymer soluble in the aqueous dispersion and 0-6% by weight, based on the weight of the shampoo, of a water-insoluble, non-volatile hair conditioning silicone, the water-insoluble lipid phase comprising at least one lipid soluble, emulsifiable, monocationic, quaternary ammonium compound or amine solubilized in a water-insoluble long chain lipid compound, the weight ratio of monocationic compound to the lipid compound in the lipid phase being in the range of from about 5:1 to about 1:10 and the molar ratio of anionic surfactant to water-insoluble cationic compound is greater than 2:1. The shampoo having no silicone possesses a high degree of style control properties. The shampoo containing silicone has a high degree of hair conditioning properties.

Low silicone hair conditioning shampoo and non-silicone hair

Hair rinse compositions, in emulsion or dispersion form, which condition the hair and facilitates setting thereof, includes a hair conditioning and emulsifying cationic compound, a water insoluble acrylic or acrylate polymer and a solvent which is a stabilizing and compatibilizing proportion of the composition comprising a higher aliphatic alcohol and/or alcohol ethoxylate, in an aqueous medium. The cationic compound is a quarternary ammonium salt preferably a higher alkyl trimethyl ammonium chloride and the polymer is preferably an acrylamide acrylate copolymer. Preferably solvents in the compositions are C.sub.9-20 aliphatic alcohols and/or C.sub.9-20 alcohol ethoxylates having less than 2 ethoxy groups per mole. The preferred emulsion, which is normally of the oil-in-water type, preferably includes propylene glycol and a nonionic surfactant, and the aqueous medium is preferably water, or is essentially water.
