Disclosed are solvent cement formulations having beneficial stability and performance characteristics that include a thermoplastic resin, one or more organic solvents, an inhibitor of an oxidation-reduction reaction, and a heat stabilizer.

Solvent cement formulations having extended shelf life

Provided are primer formulations for solvent cement bonding comprising cyclopentanone and, optionally, at least one additional organic solvent. The primer formulations are effective for solvent cement bonding plastic components together, wherein the plastic components may include ABS, PVC, or CPVC pipes and/or fittings.

Primers for use with solvent cements

Provided are solvent cement formulations comprising some or all of tetrahydrofuran, cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, a thermoplastic resin, silica, and, a solvent soluble acrylic copolymer associative thickener. The disclosed formulations contain a reduced complement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) relative to conventional cement formulations, yet are capable of meeting the requirements for regular-, medium-, and heavy-duty applications. The use of specialized associative thickener components confers a required degree of viscosity while enabling a reduction in the concentration of VOCs, such as tetrahydrofuran.

Solvent cement formulations

A toilet sealing ring for sealing the outlet of a floor mounted toilet to a mating drain pipe comprises an annular mass of a wax based composition comprising a wax component and at least 20 wt. % of a non-wax filler component.

Macrocyclic compounds, e.g., ketones, crown ethers, methicones etc., have been found to be effective co-solvents in solvent based adhesives for pipe joining applications. Because of their enhanced solubility with VOC exempt solvents (40 C.F.R. 51.100), the calculated VOC content of the adhesive can be lowered to at least 75% of those established by SCAQMD Rule 116A.

Plastic adhesive

A solvent cement for bonding PVC, CPVC and ABS plastic pipe and other molded articles comprises a minor amount of an acrylic resin and one or more solvents capable of dissolving the acrylic resin and further capable of dissolving at least the surfaces of PVC, CPVC and ABS molded articles, wherein the acrylic resin constitutes at least 75 wt. % of the dissolved thermoplastic resin in the cement.

Universal solvent cement

Adhesive compositions are described which comprise at least one organic sulfoxide, sulfone or sulfide and at least one ketone, ether, ester, amide or carbonate or a mixture thereof. The adhesive compositions also may contain one or more water insoluble polymers such as ABS, PVC and CPVC. Methods of adhesively bonding or welding a first plastic surface to a second plastic surface using these adhesive compositions also are described.

Adhesive compositions and methods of using the same

A composition, and a method of using the composition, are described which composition comprising: (A) at least one chlorinated polyvinyl chloride or mixture of at least one polyvinyl-chloride and at least one chlorinated polyvinyl-chloride thereof; (B) at least one volatile organic liquid which is a solvent for the polymer of (A); and (C) a stabilizer comprising (i) an organophosphite compound, at least one hindered phenol, at least one of an organotin compound or mixtures thereof, and (ii) at least one metal-containing carbonate salt. The composition and methods of the present invention act to retard the loss of chlorine from the resins of the adhesive compositions and to absorb or otherwise inactive any lost chlorine. The compositions of the invention are useful in a variety of applications including use as adhesives, cements (including solvent cements) glues or pastes for holding together materials by surface attachment, and as sealants which are load-bearing elastic jointing and insulating materials.

Bonding compositions for chlorinated polymers and methods of using the same

The present invention relates to water soluble fluxes which comprise at least one wax carrier, at least one surfactant and at least one activator. The present water soluble fluxes are easily applicable with a brush. They have excellent pull through of solder in the joint. The water soluble flux avoids turning copper green and does not burst into flame on heating with a torch.
