A screen including a filtration media having a manufactured structure with an interface portion and a filtration portion, the filtration portion having a homogenous geometry that precisely balances flow through all flow paths through the media. A method for making a screen including determining a geometric shape of each flow path through a prospective filtration media, sequentially progressively building the media particle by particle ensuring the geometric shape of each flow path is within 0.01 mm of a design geometry, and fusing each build particle to the foregoing build particle. A borehole system, including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string in the borehole, and a screen and or plurality of individually designed screens disposed or geometrically distributed within or as a part of the string.

Sand screen, method, and system

A downhole assembly includes a support structure; a shape-memory article disposed at the support structure; and a deployment control element adjacent the shape-memory article, the deployment control element having a permeable or degradable wall defining a chamber and an activation material disposed in the chamber. A method includes introducing the downhole assembly into a wellbore, wherein the downhole assembly is disposed when the shape-memory article is in a compacted shape; exposing the downhole assembly to a wellbore fluid; releasing the activation material from the deployment control element; and contacting the shape-memory article in the compacted shape with the released activation material to cause the shape-memory article to expand, and conform to a surface of the wellbore.

Controlled deployment of shape-memory articles

A downhole assembly includes: a shape-memory article; and a deployment control element adjacent the shape-memory article, the deployment control element having a body and a seal element that forms an enclosure together with the body, the deployment control element further including an activation fluid disposed in the enclosure, wherein the body, the seal element, or both of the deployment control element is degradable in the presence of the activation fluid.
