Voice activated electronic devices are described herein. In some embodiments, the voice activated electronic device may include a housing forming a cavity. An array of microphones, one or more speakers, and one or more cameras may be located within the cavity. Furthermore, the voice activated electronic device may include a display screen and a touch screen, which may both be coupled to the housing such that the housing is substantially enclosed. In some embodiments, the array of microphones is positioned about the housing such that audio input may be detectable from audio output by the speaker(s) while the speaker(s) are outputting audio. For instance, one or more vibration mitigators may be included to dampen vibrations that may affect a performance and functionality of the one or more components located within the cavity.

Voice activated electronic device

Some implementations include electronic devices having space efficient component configurations. In some instances, an electronic device may include an electronic display, a light source, and a lightguide having one or more reflective surfaces. This disclosure describes, in part, configurations of these and other components that create opportunities for efficiently using space associated with the electronic device.

Space efficient electronic device component configurations

Some implementations include a light-based touch sensing system in which a first type of light is projected across a display surface for detection by one or more light sensors. When a user's finger blocks the light from being delivered to a light sensor, a location of the finger with respect to the display can be determined. At least one light source may be selectively operable to emit a second type of light, different from the first type of light, to illuminate the display surface with visible light. In some implementations, a dual-mode light source is selectively operable to emit the first type of light, the second type of light, or both the first type and second type of light. In other implementations, a first light source emits the first type of light and a second light source emits the second type of light through the same light guide.

Display illumination with light-based touch sensing

Some implementations provide a connector element that may be movable from a retracted position within a cavity to an extended position for contacting an external contact element that may be positioned proximate to an exterior end of the cavity. In some implementations, at least one of the external contact element or the connector element may include a magnet for causing the connector element to extend from the retracted position into contact with the external contact element for forming an electrical connection. In some implementations, a mechanical actuator may be provided for extending the connector element into contact with the external contact element. In some implementations, an actuator having a motive element may extend the connector element into contact with the external contact element based on a detected proximity or an identification of an accessory associated with the external contact element. Some implementations may also include an optical connection.

Automatic connectors

Accessories are attached to an electronic device, such as an electronic book ('eBook') reader device via one or more low profile accessory connectors configured to provide mechanical and electrical connections. Accessories include covers, reading lights, external power sources, touchpads, diagnostic devices, and so forth. The low profile accessory connector is configured to receive a hook from the accessory and provide a mechanical engagement between the hook and the electronic device. While engaged, at least a portion of the hook engages one or more electrical contacts within the connector. Electrical power, signals, or both may then be sent between the accessory and the electronic device.
