In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a connector plug for attachment to a single pair Ethernet cable comprising a pair of conductors, and configured for being received in a connector receptacle. The connector plug includes a first end for receiving the single pair Ethernet cable and a second end having a pair of contacts, each of the contacts comprising a receptacle contact interface, a conductor interface, and an extension to provide an increased width between conductor gripping prongs at the conductor interface while maintaining a consistent spacing between the pair of contacts at the receptacle contact interface with connector plugs configured to mate with different gauge cables. The connector plug comprises a latch for secure attachment to the receptacle and a pull cord connected to the latch and accessible when the connector plug is inserted into the receptacle with other connector plugs for release of the connector plug.

Single pair ethernet connector system

Disclosed herein is a technique for a connection from an Ethernet physical transceiver (PHY) to an integrated connector module (ICM) where the connection and the ICM lack a common mode choke. The ICM can include a magnetic coupler that directly couples an Ethernet jack and the PHY.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a connector plug for attachment to a single pair Ethernet cable comprising a pair of conductors, and configured for being received in a connector receptacle. The connector plug includes a first end for receiving the single pair Ethernet cable and a second end having a pair of contacts, each of the contacts comprising a receptacle contact interface, a conductor interface, and an extension to provide an increased width between conductor gripping prongs at the conductor interface while maintaining a consistent spacing between the pair of contacts at the receptacle contact interface with connector plugs configured to mate with different gauge cables.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a module for installation in a modular electronic system. The module generally comprises a subassembly for insertion into a front opening in a chassis of the modular electronic system or removal from the front opening in the chassis and an adapter comprising a first interface for mating with the subassembly and a second interface for mating with the modular electronic system. The adapter remains in the chassis during removal of the subassembly from the front opening in the chassis and the module is configured for insertion into a rear opening in the chassis or removal from the rear opening in the chassis with the subassembly coupled to the adapter.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes four independent single pair Ethernet ports coupled to a cable comprising four wire pairs for communication with a micro-switch, the micro-switch configured for communication with four endpoint devices, each of the endpoint devices in communication with the micro-switch over a single pair Ethernet cable comprising one of the four wire pairs. Each of the four independent single pair Ethernet ports comprises an echo canceller for receiving input from a transmitter at one of the independent single pair Ethernet ports and each of the other independent single pair Ethernet ports to cancel alien crosstalk between the four wire pairs.

In one embodiment, a method includes detecting a slave device at a master device, determining at the master device if the slave device is configured for I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) or SPE (Single Pair Ethernet) based on an output at the slave device, and selecting an I2C mode of operation at the master device if the slave device is configured for I2C, or selecting an SPE mode of operation at the master device if the slave device is configured for SPE. Data and control are selected from an I2C controller at the master device in the I2C mode of operation and selected from a physical coding sublayer at the master device in the SPE mode of operation.

A network connector assembly with an upper board member includes one or more upper coupling pins and a lower board member includes one or more lower coupling pins. The upper board member and lower board member each a plurality of sets of contact pins disposed on a respective top surface. A housing can be disposable over the upper board member and the lower board member forming one or more network couplers. Each of the one or more network couplers configured to receive one set of contact pins.

Network connector assembly

Adjustable data rate data communications may be provided. First, a plurality of remote data rates at which a remote device is configured to operate may be received. Then, a plurality of local data rates at which a local device is configured to operate may be received. A greatest one of the plurality of local data rates may comprise a cable data rate comprising a greatest rate supported by a length of cable connecting the local device and the remote device. Next, an operating data rate may be determined. The operating data rate may comprise a highest one of the plurality of local data rates that has a corresponding equivalent within the plurality of remote data rates. The local device may then be operated at the operating data rate.

Adjustable data rates

Various implementations disclosed herein include a power distribution system that provides flexible and/or multi-source supply capacity in response to changes in load power demand relative to active power supply capacity, and based at least in part on a performance objective function. In some implementations, a power distribution system includes a plurality of power supplies, and a power control module connected to control the plurality of power supplies. The power supplies are configured to deliver a current to a power supply node, and are also configured to responsively adjust the current in response to a control command. The power control module provides control commands that are produced in response to threshold changes in load power demand relative to active power supply capacity provided by one or more of the plurality of power supplies, and based at least in part on a performance objective function, such as efficiency, redundancy, and demand tracking.

Methods and systems are disclosed which can perform cable characterization at link-up and during in-service monitoring to provide the best data throughput. In some embodiments a plurality of frequency tones may be sent across a cable to a remote system. A plurality of return loss values associated with sending the plurality of frequency tones may then be measured and stored. Next, a crosstalk value across the cable may be computed. A quality value for the cable may then be determined based on at least the plurality of return loss values and the crosstalk value.

Ethernet data rate selection based on cable parameters

Power Over Ethernet (POE)/universal power over Ethernet (UPoE) may be enabled at multigigabit port-channel connections. This may allow for additional speed support in auto-negotiation messages while employing multigigabit speeds. An integrated connector module (referred to herein as a 'ICM') compatible with UPoE with a modified local physical layer (PHY) circuit may be capable of supporting multi-gigabit data rates (such as between 1 G to 10 G, e.g., 2.5 G and 5 G) as to not limit the data rates to 1 G. The ICM may provide multi-gig data transmission through a first plurality of pins comprising a multi-gig data pin area. Furthermore, the ICM may provide UPoE power to support the multi-gig transmission through a second plurality of pins comprising a UPoE power pin area.

In an example embodiment, an apparatus comprising a physical layer processing device that comprises logic configured to process a packet received from a physical layer interface is disclosed. The physical layer processing device logic is further configured to determine a preamble portion of the packet and a data portion of the packet. The physical layer processing device logic is further configured to insert a timestamp into the preamble portion of the packet. The physical layer processing device logic forwards the packet with the timestamp inserted into the preamble.

Flexible time stamping

A method and apparatus for receiving clocked data signals such as SPI-4.2 data signals is described. In one embodiment, each data signal lane is deskewed with respect to the clock by oversampling the signal on that lane, and considering multiple versions of a data sequence at different temporal offsets to the clock for correct reception of a training sequence. One of the temporal offsets is subsequently selected to provide the received bit sequence for that lane. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
