A built laundry detergent composition contains a combination of anionic, nonionic and cationic surfactants which includes a highly ethoxylated nonionic surfactant which is a C -C alcohol ethoxylated with an average of from 20 to 50 ethylene oxide groups. The cationic surfactant may advantageously be an ethoxylated quaternary ammonium compound. The composition exhibits improved oily soil detergency.

A built laundry detergent composition contains anionic surfactant in combination with a minor amount of a highly ethoxylated nonionic surfactant which is a C -C alcohol ethoxylated with an average of from 20 to 50 ethylene oxide groups. The composition exhibits improved oily soil detergency especially under hard water conditions.

Detergent compositions comprising an ethoxylated alcohol and alkyl ioenzene sulfonate

Laundry detergent compositions contain a sulphate or sulphonate anionic surfactant and a defined cationic surfactant in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 99:1. The cationic surfactant is a quaternary ammonium salt containing an ethoxylated alkyl chain. The compositions exhibit enhanced removal of oily soil.

A built laundry detergent composition containing cationic detergent surfactant also contains from 0.05 to 5 wt % of iminodisuccinate (IDS) or hydroxyiminodisuccinate (HIDS). The composition provides improved moil and stain removal in conjunction with reduced dye fading of coloured fabrics.
