A method and network node for predictive sectorized average power control. A method includes determining a beamforming gain for each of a plurality of directions. The method also includes determining a total power at each of a plurality of times within a window for each of the plurality of spatial directions, the total power being based at least in part on a weighted sum of products of a beamforming gain and a downlink power allocated to a wireless device in each of the plurality of spatial directions. The method further includes determining an average of the total power within the window to produce an average power; computing a control signal based on the average power and a threshold; and controlling the transmitted total power according to the control signal by limiting a fraction of scheduled physical resource blocks to an upper limit.

Predictive sectorized average power control

Embodiments of a method in a network node for resource allocation are disclosed. The method includes selecting a user set of wireless devices from available predefined user sets; estimating expected data rates for the wireless devices in the selected user set for a selected radio resource; computing a weighted sum of the expected rates of the wireless devices in the user set; and assigning a given the selected radio resource to the user set with the highest weighted sum. A criterion for dynamic resource allocation that can opportunistically exploit the channel variations towards achieving the optimal trade-off between the network capacity and wireless device-fairness is also disclosed.

Resource allocation in MU-MIMO OFDMA wireless systems

A method and network node for single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MEMO) codebook-based precoder selection and for rank adaptation are provided. According to one aspect, a method includes, for each one of a plurality of rank hypotheses: selecting a precoder matrix based on an uplink transmit covariance matrix; and estimating a respective information carrying capacity, ICC, for the rank hypothesis based at least in part on the selected precoder matrix. The method further includes selecting an uplink SU-MIMO precoding matrix based at least in part on the estimated ICC for each rank hypothesis.

Uplink single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MIMO) precoding in wireless cellular systems

A network node is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to estimate spatial transmission information, STI, for each of a plurality of wireless devices, and determine spatial separability among the plurality of wireless devices based at least in part on the estimated STI for each of the plurality of wireless devices. The processing circuitry is further configured to cause scheduling of the plurality of wireless devices on the same communication resources based at least in part on the determined spatial separability.

Multi-user coordinated transmission in cellular systems

A method and apparatus for beamspace processing in a radio access node are proposed. A channel estimate, which characterizes a radio channel between the antenna elements of an antenna array and a user equipment for a given time and a given frequency, is transformed using multiple distinct sets of spatial orthonormal basis functions to obtain transformed channel estimates. Each one of the distinct sets of spatial orthonormal basis functions defines a respective one of beamspace transformations. Based on measures of quality of beamspace transformation, a set of spatial orthonormal basis functions is selected from the sets of the spatial orthonormal basis functions to satisfy a beamspace reduction criteria for the radio channel. Data streams are encoded, based on a selected transformed channel estimate, into encoded data streams. The encoded data streams are then transmitted through the antenna elements of the antenna array.

Method and apparatus for beamspace processing based on multiple beamspace bases

A method, base station and user equipment are disclosed. A base station configured to communicate with a plurality of user equipments is provided. The base station includes processing circuitry configured to: track a downlink signal subspace for each UE of the plurality of UEs, and determine a Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, MU-MIMO, precoders based on the downlink signal subspace for each UE of the plurality of UEs. The MU-MIMO precoders are configured to at least in part suppress intra-cell MU-MIMO interference.
