A device receives an analog voltage signal over a single physical electrical connection. The analog voltage signal can be converted into a digital value which can then be correlated to (i) an indication of a connection state of the primary device, and (ii) information about another device (or set of devices) which is connected to the device.

One example of a system includes a Universal Serial Bus Type-C (USB-C) port, a set of logic circuits, a multiplexer, and an embedded controller. The set of logic circuits includes a first logic circuit providing a first utility and a second logic circuit providing a second utility different from the first utility. The multiplexer is communicatively coupled between the set of logic circuits and the USB-C port. The embedded controller controls the multiplexer to connect the first logic circuit or the second logic circuit to the USB-C port based on a value of a multi-level strap received from a device connected to the USB-C port.

A camera interface module is disclosed. The camera interface module has a first connector on one side configured to couple with a camera dock. The camera interface module has a second smaller connector on a second side configured to couple to a camera. The camera interface module has a standard input/output (I/O) connector and a power jack on a third side.

The dynamic VBUS power source provides a system and method for dynamically powering USB devices. Briefly described, one embodiment is a method comprising determining when the USB device is a master device or a slave device, powering the USB device over a USB connector using a power unit when the USB device is the slave device, and powering a second USB device over the USB connector using the USB device when the USB device is the master device.

System and method for dynamic USB power source

An adjustable filter for suppressing radio frequency emission is disclosed. The adjustable filter comprises a ferrite material inductively coupled to a signal carrier, the signal carrier having current at a first frequency and a second frequency, and a signal carrier having an adjustable inductance for adjusting the electrical characteristics of the signal carrier. Adjusting the electrical characteristics of the signal carrier reduces saturation of the ferrite material at the first frequency, thereby allowing the ferrite material to suppress current at the second frequency, where the second frequency is higher than the first frequency.

System and method for suppressing radio frequency (RF) radiation

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) elements facilitate protection of electronic components from ESD events. The ESD element includes a pair of spark gaps between a first side and second side of the ESD element. The first side of the ESD element includes a peaked portion and a substantially planar portion. The second side of the ESD element includes a peaked portion opposite the substantially planar portion of the first side and a substantially planar portion opposite the peaked portion of the first side. This asymmetry facilitates use of peaked emitters regardless of the polarity of the charge applied to the ESD element while further facilitating the use of more optimized receiver surfaces opposite the emitters.

Electrostatic discharge protection

Apparatus comprising an appliance having three appliance contacts disposed on its bottom surface and an appliance docking tray that allows transfer of power and data. The appliance docking tray has a grid of electrical contacts disposed on its top surface, and switching apparatus, such as a processor and switch matrix, coupled to the electrical contacts of the grid. The switching apparatus electronically switches between the electrical contacts to determine which of the electrical contacts touch the appliance contacts when the appliance is disposed on the top surface of the docking tray.

An input device that has controls on more than one side is disclosed. The user orients the input device such that the controls to he used are in a predetermined orientation. A sensor detects which controls are in the predetermined orientation and enables those controls.

Method and apparatus for a multi-sided input device

Apparatus and methods for disabling a USB or other interface connection between a personal computer and a docking cradle or device until the instant such a connection is actually needed. When the docking cradle is empty, the exposed pins are connected to a conductive ground path or is isolated. When a device is inserted into the docking cradle, the electrical signals that are connected to the personal computer by way of the interface are then switched on.
