Methods and apparatuses for interference management between multiple wireless networks are disclosed. The apparatuses, and methods for doing the same, communicate with one or more wireless devices in each of first and second wireless networks, the first and second wireless networks having a common spectrum and different air interface protocols, and generate a message for transmission into the first wireless network to suppress transmission in the first network and to reserve a medium for wireless transmissions in the second wireless network.

An adaptive linearity communication device and its operation are disclosed. The adaptive linearity communication device may include a component having a linearity dependent upon a bias and a processor configured to change the bias in response to the detection of a connection between the wireless communication device and a high-capacity power source. A method of operating an adaptive linearity communication device having a bias dependent component where the device is configured to operate in a high efficiency mode in the absence of a connection between the device and a high-capacity power source, may include determining whether a high-capacity power source is connected to the wireless communication device, and varying the operation of the bias dependent component based on whether a high-capacity power source is connected to the wireless communication device.

Adaptive linearity communication device

Method for reducing power consumption in a multimode device is disclosed. The multimode device includes a COMM1 component and a COMM2 component. In one aspect, a COMM1 component may be a UWB component and a COMM2 component may be a CDMA component. According to a disclosed embodiment, the time for a next scheduled COMM1 wakeup process to be performed by a COMM1 module is established. Thereafter, if the next COMM1 wakeup process is scheduled to be performed before the next COMM2 wakeup process, a COMM2 wakeup process is synchronized to be performed by a COMM2 module at the same time as the next COMM1 wakeup process. Following, when the time arrives for the COMM1 module to perform the next COMM1 wakeup process, the COMM2 module also performs the COMM2 wakeup process.

Method for reducing power consumption in a multi-mode device

Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to wireless communications, and more specifically, to various systems and techniques for early termination of low rate traffic in a wireless network. A physical layer packet (PLP) grouping factor K configures the PLP into K groups and an ACK/NAK is received on each group.

Early termination of low data rate traffic in a wireless network

In embodiments, an adaptive tone erasure technique is applied to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communications, such as ECMA-368 standard ultra-wideband (UWB) communications. A transmitter obtains jammed sub-carrier information and calculates an erasure mask. The jammed sub-carriers are nulled before transmitting to a receiver. In accordance with the erasure mask, bits falling on the jammed sub-carriers are replaced by erasure bits before interleaving, keeping the interleaver block size constant notwithstanding variations in the number of the jammed sub-carriers. The receiver also obtains the jammed sub-carrier information and the erasure mask. After the receiver deinterleaves the constant size blocks, it decodes the data without the erasure bits. The transmitter may detect the jammed sub-carriers itself, or obtain the information from the receiver. The receiver similarly may detect the jammed sub-carriers itself, or obtain the information from the transmitter.

Apparatus and method for interference-adaptive communications

An adjustable filter is responsive to a control signal to change a frequency response of the adjustable filter based on at least one of a geographic location, frequency spectrum information, and a status of a secondary internal radio. The control signal may shift a center of the pass band from a first center frequency to a second center frequency and/or change a pass band bandwidth from a first bandwidth to a second bandwidth. A receiver includes an adjustable filter responsive to a control signal and controller configured to select a frequency response of the adjustable filter by generating the control signal based on a geographical location. In one aspect the geographical location indicates a region of operation of the receiver and the frequency response is selected in accordance with the region.

An adjustable filter is responsive to a control signal to change a frequency response of the adjustable filter based on at least one of a geographic location, frequency spectrum information, and a status of a secondary internal radio. The control signal may shift a center of the pass band from a first center frequency to a second center frequency and/or change a pass band bandwidth from a first bandwidth to a second bandwidth. A transmitter includes an adjustable filter responsive to a control signal and controller configured to select a frequency response of the adjustable filter by generating the control signal based on a geographical location. In one aspect, the geographical location indicates a region of operation of the receiver and the frequency response is selected in accordance with the region.

Adjustable transmission filter responsive to internal sadio status

Embodiments describe reducing interference in a wireless communication network, including an ad hoc network. According to an embodiment, a method for reducing interference includes receiving a data packet and determining a channel quality level of the received data packet. The method further includes calculating a number of groups to divide the data packet into based on the channel quality level and determining a slot position within each group. The positioning of an acknowledgment channel within each group can be optimized to reduce the amount of overhead channels or to provide time to decode a traffic channel.

Method and device ACK/NACK slot positioning

A method of transmitting a data frame is disclosed and may include transmitting a preamble, transmitting a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) header, and transmitting a plurality of MAC protocol data units (MPDUs). Each MPDU may be configured to reset a convolutional decoder state after each MPDU. The method may also include transmitting an MPDU aggregation header. The MPDU aggregation header may include a count of packed MPDUs, an array of offsets, an array of lengths, a frame check sequence (FCS) for the MPDU aggregation header, a group of tail bits, or a combination thereof. Further, an end of the MPDU aggregation header may be aligned to an interleaved symbol boundary.

System and method of transmitting and receiving data frames

A method for performing carrier frequency offset estimation and frame synchronization is disclosed herein. In one approach, the method includes performing a first level frequency discrimination on at least one estimated channel tap to generate a frequency discriminated value; estimating a phase error from the frequency discriminated value; and, determining a predetermined frame synchronization pattern from the estimated phase error. A computer program product having code and a wireless communications apparatus for performing the method are also described herein.

Method and apparatus for carrier frequency offset estimation and frame synchronization in a wireless communication system

A controllable filter arrangement with a voltage controlled device that subjects a signal to a predetermined impedance as part of the filtering process when the voltage controlled device is in an active state. In an inactive state, the voltage controlled device may subject the signal to an impedance that prevents all frequencies of the signal from passing. This configuration may advantageously increase frequency selectivity and reduce insertion loss, size, cost, and tuning complexity when compared with conventional filter designs.

Apparatus and method for improving channel filter selectivity and performance using voltage variable impedance elements

An apparatus for detecting an OFDM symbol encoded with a transmitted sequence including a filter having coefficients based on a simplified version of the transmitted sequence is disclosed. A computer program product having code and a wireless communications apparatus for performing the method are also described herein.

Method and apparatus for packet detection in wireless communication system

A method for performing symbol timing estimation is disclosed herein. In one approach, the method includes defining a search space in a plurality of estimated magnitudes of channel taps; defining a search window in the search space; and locating a symbol timing estimate index in the search space corresponding to a maximum value of an energy of the plurality of estimated magnitudes of channel taps within the search window. A computer program product having code and a wireless communications apparatus for performing the method are also described herein.
