A catalyst for the preparation of phthalic anhydride is disclosed which comprises a carrier having an open arcuate configuration, e.g. in the form of half rings, and an active portion including V.sub.2 O.sub.5 and porous TiO.sub.2 with the pores having mostly a radius in the 500 to 1,500 .ANG. range. Also described is a method of preparing phthalic anhydride which utilizes this catalyst.

A catalyst for the preparation of phthalic anhydride is disclosed which comprises a carrier having an open arcuate configuration, e.g. in the form of half rings, and an active portion including V.sub.2 O.sub.5 and porous TiO.sub.2 with the pores having mostly a radius in the 500 to 1,500 A range.

Process for the continuous separation of maleic acid anhydride from process gases from the catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons, e.g., n-butane, in the steam phase. The process gases are treated with a solvent, which is a cycloaliphatic acid ester. Typically, the cycloaliphatic acid ester is a dialkyl ester, having 4 to 8 carbon atoms in each alkyl group, of hexahydrophthalic acid, tetrahydrophthalic acid, methyltetrahydrophthalic acid or methylhexahydrophthalic acid.

Process for the continuous separation of maleic anhydride from process

A process for obtaining maleic acid anhydride from an aqueous maleic acid solution obtained from the gas phase oxidation of at least one organic compound having at least 4 carbon atoms by washing out the reaction gases with water, characterized in that a H.sub.2 O exchange is carried out between maleic acid and an organic carboxylic acid anhydride.
