A thrust bearing pad includes a relatively low wear and low friction contact layer disposed on a metallic substrate. The metallic substrate allows a manufacturer to couple the thrust bearing pad to a corresponding metallic thrust bearing in a relatively secure manner while the contact layer extends the operating life of the thrust bearing and minimizes maintenance.

A metallic seal design that reduces manufacturing costs by minimizing production steps and also lowers the sealing force by incorporating a thin-wall, high height/width ratio annular column. The seal has two horizontal ribs which constrain the thin-wall column from unstable buckling to thereby reduce or eliminate the tendency of the sealing dams to become inclined to sealing flange surfaces.

Ultra-high vacuum metallic seal

The invention provides a method and system for electrolytically coating an article. The method includes providing an article to be coated and disposing the article in an electrolytic cell. The cell includes an anode, a cathode in operable communication with the article, and an electrolyte bath. During electrolysis, the electrolyte bath comprises cobalt ions, phosphorous acid, and tribological particles selected from the group consisting of refractory materials, solid lubricants and mixtures thereof dispersed therein. The method further includes applying steady direct electric current through the anode, the electrolyte bath and the cathode to coat the article with cobalt, phosphorous and the tribological particles. An improved composition of matter is also provided that may be used as a coating, or the composition may be electroformed on a mandrel to form an article made from the composition of matter.

Electrocomposite coatings for hard chrome replacement

A composition and process for forming an electrodeposited coating comprising a co-deposit of a metal and MCrAlY particles. The composition includes a metal and a MCrAlY particles, and the electrodeposited coating comprises a metal matrix and MCrAlY particles dispersed in the matrix. In one aspect, a coating is provided that exhibits excellent oxidation resistance and tribological characteristics at high temperatures, including up to at least about 1350&#xb0; F. A high temperature coating may comprise a nickel/cobalt alloy matrix comprising MCrAlY particles and chromium carbide particles dispersed in the nickel/cobalt matrix.

Protective coating for metallic seals

A process chambercomprising a container (), a lid (), and a sealed interface () therebetween. The container's interface surface () and/or the lid's interface surface () includes at least one groove () in which a seal () is situated. The seal () comprises an elastomeric element () and a metallic element (). The elastomeric element () and the metallic element () can be arranged and adapted to seal the chamber's interface () sequentially during its conversion to a sealed condition. And/or the elastomeric element () and the metallic element () can be arranged and adapted to seal the chamber's interface in series once the lid () is in its sealed condition.

Semiconductor process chamber

A spring seal for sealing in high temperature applications includes a jacket and a spring member disposed within the jacket. The spring member is constructed to control a sealing load or spring rate of the spring seal relative to opposing flanges while the jacket is constructed to provide a sealing surface relative to the opposing flanges. The spring member is manufactured from a cast blade alloy, thereby allowing the spring member to maintain its spring back characteristics at relatively high temperatures of about 1300&#xb0; F. and greater. Accordingly, the spring member minimizes the formation of a leak path between the spring seal and the opposing flanges. In one embodiment, the spring member is manufactured with a substantially U-shaped cross-section. With such a configuration, the spring seal provides substantially balanced, opposing forces on the jacket to minimize the formation of gaps between the spring seal and the flanges.

High temperature spring seals

An electro-composite tribological coating for coating a flexible or compliant structure, for example a structural seal, includes a cobalt and cobalt alloy base containing a fine dispersion of tribologically suitable particles such as chromium carbide (CrC), silicon carbide (SiC), carbon graphite, and the like, which can be deposited directly on the outer surface of the seal as a near-net shape coating requiring little or no mechanical polishing or grinding. The coating is deposited on the seal in one embodiment by an electrolytic bath. In this manner, a near-net shape coating of a desirable thickness, for example having a thickness of about 0.005&#x2033; and a desirable surface finish can be achieved in the as-plated condition with little or no additional polishing or grinding after coating.

Electro-composite coating for flexible seals and method of applying the same

A non-contacting seal for sealing in high temperature applications includes at least one segment having an inner pad with a hydrodynamic/hydrostatic lift-off geometry enabling the seal to run in a non-contact mode, and at least one finger spring supported on the pad that aids in making the seal radially compliant while also being axially stiff, compared to the radial direction. In one embodiment, multiple segments are supported on a support member spaced from the pad to form a gap (g) therebetween. The pad preferably includes a wear resistant layer on its inner diameter (ID) which prevents excessive wear of the pad. In one embodiment, the hydrodynamic/hydrostatic lift-off geometry is in the form of a groove formed on the inner pad. A cover may also be provided between inner pads at the ID and the support ring at the outer diameter OD in order to prevent leakage through the gap.

Non-contacting seal for rotating surfaces

A composite seal for sealing in high temperature applications includes an inner spring for controlling the sealing load or the spring rate, and an outer jacket for providing a sealing surface. In one embodiment, the inner spring, which be made from cast blade alloys, includes a plurality of flexible fingers which are inclined with respect to a longitudinal axis of the outer jacket having a continuous outer sealing surface. The spring rate of the jacket is preferably at least about 50% less than the spring rate of the spring in order to achieve desired sealing. In one embodiment, one or more of the flexible fingers a single crystal construction and are supported by a holding ring. The axis of the finger may preferably be positioned parallel to a softer crystallographic direction of the blade alloy of the finger.

A metallic seal includes a cold formed substrate layer and one or more additional layers. At least one of the layers offers improved resistance to high temperature stress relaxation.

High temperature metallic seal

A brush seal assembly including a bristle strip having a plurality of bristles mounted at an angle to at least one rail, and an annular holder for supporting the bristle strip is provided. In one embodiment, the bristle strip is flexible such that the strip can be readily bent by hand and the annular holder is preferably U-shaped. The brush seal assembly may be utilized with conventional mounting techniques, and may be mounted within a unitary or segmented holder. Once installed, the brush seal assembly acts as a static and dynamic seal in order to seal the gap between a high pressure source and a low pressure source.
