A pressure vessel () for the storage of fluid has a core () made of metal or polymer and is wrapped either completely or partially from outside with a high strength fibers () for reinforcement wherein one of the reinforcing fibers is a metal wire () of a single filament or cables of multi filaments having strength from 2000 MPa to 6000 MPa. The wire has a plastic ductility of over 20% in reduction in area (RA) at tensile fracture. The metal wire () is made of steel or nickel or titanium or their respective alloys. The core () of the vessel () is first wrapped with a resin covered ceramic fibers such as carbon, fiberglass and subsequently wrapped with the metal wire () with or without other fibers (). The metal wires () can be of different diameters in parallel or cabled forms.

Wire wrapped pressure vessels

A light weight pressure vessel () has been proposed. The vessel () is made of a steel, aluminum or non-metal liner () which is reinforced with high strength steel wires () of 2000-7000 MPa strength. The matrix is filled with a polymer epoxy resin (). A top layer of fabric tape () soaked in resin () has been used to embed the finish end () of the wire () and to provide a protective layer over the wire reinforced area. The mesh or net fabric wrap tape () has periodic openings to allow penetration of polymer epoxy resin (). A top coat of a UV resistant polyurethane paint () has been applied.

Steel wrapped pressure vessel

A pneumatic-internal combustion (IC) engine based power management system with improved energy efficiency for automobile application. More particularly, the pneumatic IC engine based power management system comprises a compressor, a pressure vessel, a pneumatic motor and related control mechanisms to provide energy on demand and reduce environmental pollution. The compressor is driven by the IC engine during low power demand by the vehicle. The lightweight pressure vessel wrapped with high strength metal wire and/or fibers provide impact resistance adequate to store compressed air at rated pressure. For low/no load condition of engine or compressor, the IC engine will shut off rather than idling to save fuel. The stored compressed air drives the air motor that powers the vehicle's initial motion and then starts the IC engine to provide continuous power. A controller monitors the power demand and actuates different system components accordingly through sensors. The system also supports accessories such as air conditioning, heater etc. and a wheel-rim system for inflation maintenance and easy change over of tires.

Pneumatic-IC engine based power management system for automobiles and the like

The pneumatic tire has a single carcass ply reinforced with parallel metallic cords, each cord composed of at least one filament having a tensile strength of at least (&minus;2000&times;D&plus;4400 MPa) &times;95%, where D is the filament diameter in millimeters. The turnup portion of the single carcass ply in the bead portion of a pneumatic tire is interposed between the bead core and a toe guard , and the radially outer edge of each turnup portion being in contact with the main portion of the carcass ply and extending to an end point 0.5 to 4.0 inches (12.7 to 101.6 mm) radially outward of the bead core. The toe guard has a first and second end and each end is disposed directly adjacent to the carcass ply. The first end of the toe guard is located on the axially inner side of the main portion of the carcass ply at a location about 0.4 to 3.5 inches (10 to 89 mm) radially outward of the bead core and the second end is located at a point ranging from substantially the axially outermost point of the bead core to a location about 3.5 inches (89 mm) radially outward of the bead core. The first end and second end of the toe guard is a shorter distance from the bead core than the end point of the turnup portion of the carcass ply.

A strip of tire ply stock is reinforced with steel cords wherein the steel cords are constructed of high strength wire filament having at least a tensile strength of &minus;2000&times;D&plus;4400 MPa where D is the filament diameter in mm. Tires are constructed with the ply stock in the belt and/or carcass.

A runflat radial ply pneumatic tire 10 has a carcass 30 which has a pair of sidewalls 20, each sidewall being reinforced with at least two sidewall fillers or runflat inserts 42, 46 and at least two cord reinforced plies 38, 40 and a bead core 26. The tire has one or more reinforcing belts 36. Each sidewall has at least one ply 38 or 40 reinforced with cords, the cords have a modulus E of X, X being at least 10 GPa. At least one ply has a turnup end 32 wrapped around the bead core 26. A first ply 38 or 40 is reinforced with substantially inextensible cords having a modulus E greater than X of the cords of the other ply. The second ply 38 or 40 is spaced from the first ply 38 or 40 by the second filler or runflat insert in the sidewall 20.

A runflat radial ply passenger or light truck pneumatic tire 10 has a carcass 30 reinforced with at least one sidewall insert or filler 42 and one substantially inextensible cord reinforced ply 38, the ply being wrapped about two bead cores 26 and located radially inward of a belt reinforcing structure 36. The sidewall insert or filler 42 is located radially inward of the ply 38. The cord 43 has a minimum modulus E of 10 Gpa and is generally inextensible and less heat sensitive than conventional synthetic cords used in passenger and light truck tires. In one embodiment the ply cords 43 are aramid in another embodiment the cords 43 are steel

Inextensible high temperature resistant tire

An elastomeric composite structure 45 having two arrays of parallel cords 41, 43, each array of cords 41,43 being of different modulus or percent elongation. The array of cords 41,43 are spaced and provide different bending stiffness dependent on the direction of the applied load.
