In some embodiments, a switch module is configured to receive from a first edge device a multicast data unit having a VLAN identifier. The switch module is configured to select a set of port modules based on the VLAN identifier. The switch module is configured to define an unmodified instance of the multicast data unit for each port module from the set of port modules. The switch module is configured to send the unmodified instance of the multicast data unit to each port module from the set of port modules, such that each port module applies a filter to the received instance of the multicast data unit to restrict that received instance of the multicast data unit from being sent to a second edge device via that port module if the second edge device is associated with a VLAN domain different than a VLAN domain of the first edge device.

Methods and apparatus for using virtual local area networks in a switch fabric

The disclosure describes techniques to pre-compute the effect of modifying components in a data center switch prior to actually modifying the components. A data center analyzer is configured to discover the topology of the switch and present an editable version of the topology to a data center administrator. The data center analyzer receives proposed modifications to the current topology, including removed, replaced or updated components, and applies a non-distributed copy of the traffic distribution algorithm to the modified topology to compute an expected traffic distribution and traffic metrics. The administrator may then determine whether to modify the components based on the expected traffic distribution and associated traffic metrics. When the administrator allows modification of the components, the data center analyzer may compute and install alternative routing paths for components in the data center switch to minimize data loss due to the modified components.

Pre-computing effects of modifying components in a data center switch

Methods of correlating wireless network performance of a wireless network are disclosed. One method includes collecting wireless network performance parameters at a location of the network, observing at least one of activities and conditions of the wireless network over the period of time, and correlating the wireless network performance parameters with at least one of the activities and conditions of the wireless network. The wireless network performance parameters can be collected by one or more test devices operating at nodes or clients within the wireless network.

Identifying correlations within wireless networks

A method of determining a location of a network condition within a wireless mesh network is disclosed. The method includes a test device testing a first plurality of wireless hops of the wireless mesh network. The test device also tests a second number of wireless hops of the wireless mesh network. The test device locates the network condition within the wireless mesh network by comparing the test of the first plurality of wireless hops with the test of the second number of wireless hops.
