In aspects of controlling display of content based on screen sharing in a video conference session, a video conference session is determined to be active on a computing device in a screen sharing mode. In the screen sharing mode, a user of a computing device shares content displayed on a display screen associated with the computing device with a remote user connected to the video conference session via a remote device. The remote user is then detected as having entered the screen sharing mode on the remote device, which causes the screen sharing mode to end on the computing device. Then, the remote user is detected as having ended the screen sharing mode on the remote device. In response to the screen sharing mode ending on the remote device, a prompt is displayed on the display screen that is selectable to resume the screen sharing mode on the computing device.

The computing device receives video content that depicts a user of the computing device and uses eye tracking techniques to determine a gaze location of the user based on the video content. The gaze location corresponds to one of the representations of an attendee. The computing device then communicates a prompt to one or more of the attendees that indicates the gaze location. In another example, the computing device detects a behavior of the user, e.g., a scanning behavior. Responsive to detection of the behavior, the computing device performs an action within the user interface, such as to display a roster view of the attendees.

A communication device, a method, and a computer program product modifies visual characteristics of live videos to enable non-disruptive transition from presenting a freeze frame video to a video communication session. While presenting the freeze frame video, the device captures live video including the participant and current background. The device detects a change in at least one visual characteristic of the live video that can present a visual distraction to other participants of the video communication session while transitioning from presenting the freeze frame video to the video communication session. In response to detecting the change: the device modifies aspects of the live video to provide a modified live video that retains the at least one visual characteristic consistent with the freeze frame video. For instance, a mobile device executes a media application that supports playback of digital video content, and communicates the digital video content to a display device for display. The mobile device generates a media control interface that is configurable with a variety of selectable indicia based on the digital video content. For instance, the media control interface includes a seekbar to control a temporal location of the digital video content, one or more video control buttons, and a touchpad that maps to actuatable areas of the media application. The media control interface receives an input and controls various functionality of the media application based on the input.
