A device-specific synchronization signal (DS-SS) is transmitted by a base station within a data channel transmission prior to a page timing window (PTW) of designated for at least one mobile device. The DS-SS includes a plurality of sequence instances where each sequence instance is based on a single root sequence. Prior to entering a sleep state, the mobile device receives transmission information indicative of the DS-SS transmission including at least one of a timing and format of the DS-SS transmission. After a sleep state, a mobile device acquires the DS-SS.

Scheduled device-specific synchronization signals

A base station assigns a first set of device-to-device (D2D) communication resources to a first D2D group and assigns a second set of D2D communication resources to a second D2D group. The D2D communication resources of the first set are different from the D2D communication resources of the second set. The first set of D2D communication resources and the second set of D2D communication resources are subsets of reserved D2D communication resources which are a subset of defined uplink communication resources defined by a communication specification for uplink communication between the D2D UE devices and a base station where the reserved D2D communication resources not used for uplink transmission to the base station.

Management of device-to-device communication resources

The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein utilize a 2-stage Sidelink Control Information (SCI) design when a forwarding user equipment device (UE) forwards the time-frequency location of communication resources that (1) have been reserved by another UE, or (2) are available for the receiving UE to use for device-to-device (D2D) data transmissions. In some examples, the 1st and 2nd stages of the SCI are required to decode the data channel. In these examples, part of the SCI is in the 1st stage, and the remaining part is in the 2nd stage. Thus, a UE that receives the 2-stage SCI decodes the 1st stage for sensing whether the associated data channel is being used. The 2nd stage has the remaining relevant SCI required to demodulate and decode the same associated data channel.

Method of using a 2-stage sidelink control information (SCI) design

The examples set forth herein describe methods, devices, and systems in which a wireless communication device that is a node of a vehicle ad-hoc network (VANET) spreads a reservation channel message with a spreading code, according to a codedivision multiple access (CDMA) scheme. The wireless communication device transmits a reservation channel transmission to at least one other wireless communication device, which is another node of the VANET, via time-frequency resources selected from a reservation channel resource pool. The reservation channel transmission contains the spread reservation channel message. In some examples, multiple reservation channel messages may be included in a single reservation channel transmission. In these examples, each reservation channel message is spread with a different orthogonal code before combining the reservation channel messages and spreading the combined reservation channel messages with a spreading code, according to a CDMA scheme.

An origination device transmits a 'received data signal' to a signal forwarding device. The “received data signal” comprises a first set of data. The origination device also transmits at least one “received control signal” to the signal forwarding device and to a destination device. The at least one “received control signal” comprises a first set of control information and a second set of control information. The first and second sets of control information are both associated with the first set of data. The first set of control information contains instructions pertaining to the signal forwarding device processing the first set of data. The second set of control information contains instructions pertaining to the destination device processing the first set of data. The signal forwarding device transmits a “forwarded signal” to the destination device. The “forwarded signal” contains forwarded data, based on the first set of data.

System and method for dual-control signaling for the relay scenarios

A device-specific synchronization signal (DS-SS) is transmitted by a base station within a data channel transmission to a mobile device before a paging time window for the mobile device. After a sleep state, the mobile device attempts to acquire the DS-SS without decoding a downlink control channel to obtain signal transmission information related to transmission of the page message from a base station. In addition to providing timing information for resynchronization, the DS-SS indicates the existence of a page message for the mobile device within the data channel. The mobile device returns to the sleep state in response to not detecting a DS-SS that indicates a page message. Prior to entering a sleep state, the mobile device receives transmission format information indicative of a transmission format of the DS-SS.

The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein involve a mobile wireless communication device (WCD) receiving a first discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle configuration from a network. In some examples, the first DRX cycle configuration is a U E-specific DRX cycle configuration. In other examples, the first DRX cycle configuration is a default DRX cycle configuration. The WCD also receives a second DRX cycle configuration that is different from the first DRX cycle configuration from the network. In some examples, the second DRX cycle configuration is compatible with a sidelink DRX cycle configuration of a D2D-capable device. Upon entering a first area that is near a potential safety scenario, such as an intersection, the WCD receives a signal containing an indicator. In response to receiving the signal, the WCD utilizes the second DRX cycle configuration to detect one or more device-to-device (D2D) transmissions from a D2D-capable device.

In a communication system having a plurality of user equipment (UE) devices that are operating in a contention based mode for device-to-device (D2D) communication, each UE device transmits a preferred transmission indicator when a condition for preferred transmission is met at the UE device. If a UE device receives a preferred transmission indicator, the UE device delays transmission of a D2D scheduling assignment (SA) to contend for communication resources for D2D communication. The length of the delay can be based on a number of preferred transmission indicators that are received. The preferred transmission indicator is based on a buffer size in one example.

Cooperative distributed scheduling for device-to-device (D2D) communication

The methods and systems discussed herein describe how a wireless communication device obtains a reserved time-slot list (RTS-list) to avoid 'merging collisions.' In some examples, a first wireless communication device indirectly obtains the RTS-list from a second wireless communication device with which the first wireless communication device may have a potential “merging collision.” In other examples, a first wireless communication device receives an RTS-list from each of a plurality (or all) of the neighboring wireless communication devices in the VANET and refrains from transmitting data in the time-slots identified in the received RTS-lists. The first wireless communication device may also generate and broadcast an RTS-list that contains the reserved time-slots that were identified in the received RTS-lists. In still further examples, abase station transmits an RTS-list to one or more of the wireless communication devices in order to help avoid “merging collisions.”

A network configures (e.g., allocates) reservation channel resources within a reservation channel resource pool and transmits information regarding the reservation channel resource pool to at least one wireless communication device of a vehicle ad-hoc network (VANET). The reservation channel resource pool comprises at least one time-slot comprising a set of mini-slots. A wireless communication device interested in transmitting a reservation channel transmission selects, from the reservation channel resource pool, time-frequency resources to use for a reservation channel transmission. The wireless communication device also selects a number of mini-slots over which to repeatedly transmit the reservation channel transmission. The wireless communication device then repeatedly transmits the reservation channel transmission over the selected number of mini-slots, using the selected time-frequency resources.

An apparatus includes an interface and a processor. The interface sends and receives data over a network. The processor uses the interface to transmit a first media file to a device of a user. The first media file presents a first choice between at least two options. The processor uses the interface to receive from the user a first selection in response to the first choice. In response to receiving the first selection, the processor transmits a second media file to the device. The second media file presents a second choice between at least two options. The processor uses the interface to receive from the user a second selection in response to the second choice. The processor identifies, based in part on the first selection and the second selection, a second user as potentially compatible with the user and transmits to the user a profile of the second user.

The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein periodically broadcast a signal containing an indicator to a first area that is near a potential safety scenario, such as an intersection. In some examples, the broadcast signal is part of a Synchronization System Block (SSB). In other examples, the broadcast signal is a System Information Block (SIB) message. Upon entering the first area and waking from an IDLE state, a mobile wireless communication device (WCD) receives the broadcast signal. In response to receiving the broadcast signal, the WCD activates a collision-avoidance procedure. In some examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes sensing device-to-device (D2D) resources in order to detect D2D transmissions from an approaching D2D-capable device (e.g., a vehicle). In other examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes transmitting a periodic D2D safety message using D2D resources.

The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein describe a wireless communication device transmitting a discovery channel message, at least a portion of which, is embedded in the control channel of a groupcast transmission. In some examples, the discovery channel message is transmitted using a pre-defined, fixed transmit power and modulation and coding scheme (MCS), which facilitates the receiving wireless communication devices' ability to decode the control channel, including the embedded discovery channel message. If a receiving wireless communication device can decode the discovery channel message above a configured threshold (e.g., a received power threshold and/or a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)) but is unable to decode the data portion of the groupcast transmission, which was intended for the receiving wireless communication device, then the receiving wireless communication device will transmit a negative-acknowledgement (NACK) to the wireless communication device that transmitted the groupcast transmission.

Response to a discovery channel message embedded in a vehicle-to-vehicle groupcast transmission

A neighboring cell determines that uplink interference from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) exceeds a first threshold at the neighboring cell. The neighboring cell transmits an uplink interference indicator to the UAV. In some examples, the UAV informs its serving cell of the uplink interference experienced by the neighboring cell. The serving cell can utilize information received from the UAV to make handover decisions or scheduling decisions for the UAV that caused the uplink interference. In other examples, the UAV can temporarily refrain from transmitting on at least some of its uplink resources or utilize different uplink resources for uplink data transmissions. In still other examples, the UAV can utilize downlink measurements to select which neighboring base station System Information Block messages should be monitored for an uplink interference indicator.
