In techniques disclosed allow a user equipment (UE) that receives location assistance data to determine a preferred bandwidth part (BWP) with which reference signals from one or more base stations can be measured for position determination of the UE. The selection of the preferred BWP can be based on a determination of the frequency and bandwidth of reference signals to be transmitted by the one or more base stations over the course of a positioning station. The preferred BWP may be the BWP, of a plurality of candidate BWPs, that allows for a desired number of reference signal measurements to be taken without retuning a transceiver of the UE.

User equipment (UE) centric position techniques in 5G new radio with multiple bandwidth parts

Methods and techniques are described for enhancing positioning related protocols in order to indicate when one location session is different from another location session. One or more messages provided in a location session by a location server to a user equipment (UE) may include a session indication, such as a session identifier (ID), where a different session ID is provided for each location session. The session indication may be a new session indicator provided in an initial message in a location session or an end session indicator provided in a final message in a location session. An extra message may be sent by the location server indicating that the location session has ended. A correlation ID provided by a network entity to the location server may be included in messages as the session indication, e.g., where a different correlation ID is provided for each location session.

Methods and systems for enhancement of positioning related protocols

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for enhancing vehicle operations safety using coordinating vehicle platooning or enhancing platooning safety against location spoofing attacks. In one example, a source user equipment (UE) detects a potential spoofing event associated with location information being altered in an unauthorized manner, the source UE may transmit a request to a platoon control system (PCS) to join a vehicle platoon. In another example, a first UE associated with a lead vehicle in an existing platoon may detect a potential spoofing event associated with location information being altered in an unauthorized manner. The lead vehicle may transmit to a second UE of another vehicle in the platoon an indication of the detection and a request to exchange the respective roles in the platoon. The PCS may also monitor the conditions of the first and the second UEs, and arrange for the platoon reorganization.

Implementing confidence metrics in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications

Disclosed are techniques for performing positioning measurements at a mobile device during a positioning session with a serving cell. In an aspect, the mobile device determines to trigger a coverage-enhanced (CE) mode before a positioning session timeout for the positioning session expires, continues performance of the positioning measurements during the positioning session with the serving cell while the mobile device remains connected to the serving cell due to the triggered CE mode, determines whether the positioning measurements have been completed or the positioning session timeout has expired, and responsive to the determination that the positioning measurements have been completed or that the positioning session timeout has expired, reports, to a network entity in the wireless communications network, actual handover measurements to enable the network entity to make a handover determination.

Positioning enhancements for narrowband mobile devices

Techniques are provided which may be implemented using various methods and/or apparatuses in a mobile device to determine signal measurements on a plurality of frequencies and to provide signal measurements for position calculation on a location server or on the mobile device. Techniques are provided which may be implemented using various methods and/or apparatuses on a mobile device to concurrently scan for signals across two or more frequencies while optimizing sending and/or utilizing signal measurements made at higher frequency bands or signal measurements of signals sent from devices at a shorter range.

Techniques for determining a location of a mobile device are provided. An example of a method according to the disclosure includes determining, on the mobile device, beam identification information for one or more radio beams, transmitting, with the mobile device, the beam identification information to a network node, receiving, at the mobile device, positioning reference signal beam information for one or more positioning reference signals, generating, with the mobile device, one or more receive beams based on the positioning reference signal beam information, obtaining, with the mobile device, at least one measurement from at least one of the one or more positioning reference signals, and facilitating location determination of the mobile device at a location-capable device based at least in part on the at least one measurement.

Positioning enhancements for locating a mobile device in a wireless network

The location of a user equipment may be determined by having the user equipment use a radio carrier and/or a bandwidth part having the highest sub-carrier spacing available to the user equipment. A user equipment may communicate through a plurality of radio carriers, determine a first radio carrier or bandwidth part having a highest sub-carrier spacing, determine a timing advance value associated with the first radio carrier or bandwidth part, and transmit to a location server, the timing advance value.

Enhancements in position determination in 5G cellular communications

A user equipment (UE) is configured to be connected to a 5G New Radio (NR) network that shares one or more frequency bands using dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) with a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network that is transmitting LTE positioning reference signal (PRS). The UE may receive LTE PRS rate matching information from the NR network, such as the LTE PRS configuration data or an LTE PRS rate matching pattern. The UE may decode and process NR data signals and control signals transmitted by the NR network while LTE PRS is transmitted by rate matching around the LTE PRS in accordance with the LTE PRS rate matching information. The LTE PRS muting pattern may be adjusted based on NR data or control signals, and the UE may receive and process NR data and control signals transmitted while the LTE PRS is muted.

Method and apparatus for positioning with LTE-NR dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS)

In a wireless network in which beams are transmitted by base stations, a beam relation database may be produced by crowdsourcing known positions of UEs and associated information related to beams received by the UEs at these positions. The beam information, for example, may include a beam identifier and cell identifier, and may further include measured signal parameters, such as Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) or Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ). The beam relation database may be used by a network or the UE to determine a position of a UE based on beams that are detected by the UE. The position fix may be an initial position fix that may be used to generate assistance data for the UE. Additionally, the beam relation database may be used to identify relevant measurement objects in the assistance data based on beams that are detected by the UE.

Systems and methods for positioning enhancements using beam relation crowdsourcing

Methods and systems for wireless communication are provided. In one example, a mobile device is configured to: obtain beam support information of a plurality of cells; perform measurements of one or more signals at the mobile device based on the beam support information of the plurality of cells to support a location determination operation for the mobile device; and transmit results of the measurements of the one or more signals to at least one of a location server or to a base station to support the location determination operation. The beam support information may include: a number of beams supported at each cell of the plurality of cells, information to identify each beam of the number of beams supported at the each cell, beam width information of the each beam, and/or Positioning reference Signals (PRS) codebook information which encapsulates the beams which are enabled along various elevation and azimuth angles.

Navigation and positioning system using radio beam support information

A user equipment (UE) communicating with a first base station via a first radio bearer and a second bases station via a second radio bearer is disclosed. Uplink data transmissions using the radio bearers may be controlled by a threshold. During a positioning session to locate the UE, the UE may modify the threshold to cause the UE to use both the first radio bearer and the second radio bearer. The UE may return the threshold to an original value after the positioning session.

User equipment operation regarding positioning in split bearer mode

A user equipment (UE) uses conditional reconfiguration during positioning to improve the positioning performance. The UE receives conditional reconfiguration information from a serving base station, which includes a list one or more candidate target base stations and their associated resources for handover. During a positioning session, the UE receives assistance data and determines a target base station for handover based on the list of candidate target base stations and the assistance data. The UE, for example, may select a candidate target base station for handover during the positioning session to minimize the number of measurements gaps that are required for positioning measurements, or to increase bandwidth or minimize self-interference. Where timing advance measurements are requested, the UE may select a candidate target base station based on sub-carrier spacing to improve measurement resolution.

Methods and apparatus for positioning enhancements based on conditional reconfiguration and handover feature support

Transmit output power for an uplink (UL) positioning sounding reference signal (SRS) may be determined by measuring output power of a transmit chain of a user equipment (UE) during an unused RACH occasion. A transmit output power offset is determined based on a difference between the measured output power and a predetermined output power. The transmit output power offset may be used to adjust the power output of the UE.
