A boundary specifying a bounded geographic area for which travel information is to be reported is generated. Flow section information associated with flow sections located within the boundary is obtained. The flow sections represent portions of one or more roadways assigned relevant functional road classes (FRCs). The flow section information includes information about traffic flow associated with the flow sections. FRC current traffic messages, which include non-predictive traffic information associated with roadway portions that are in the bounded geographic area and are assigned relevant FRCs, are combined with the flow section information to generate a first data group. The first data group is streamed to a first traffic message service.

Limiting content of travel-related messages

Road vector definitions and incident data associated with a traffic incident are obtained from a traffic data source. A determination is made, based on the road vector definitions and the incident data, that the traffic incident affects travel on a particular road. A road classification of the road affected by the traffic incident is determined based on the road vector definitions. An updated version of a previous Transport Protocol Experts Group (TPEG) traffic is generated. Generating the updated version of the previous TPEG traffic frame includes conditionally inserting changed traffic data associated with the particular road into the previous TPEG traffic frame. The changed traffic data associated with the particular road includes at least a portion of the incident data. The updated version of the previous TPEG traffic frame is transmitted to a station importer for broadcast.

Conditional insertion of changed traffic data into the previous traffic frame

Transport Protocol Experts Group (TPEG) traffic messages, which include traffic information associated with road vector definitions, are generated. Bounding area definitions associating the road vector definitions with bounding areas are obtained, and automatically adjusted based on a time associated with broadcast of the TPEG traffic messages. TPEG traffic messages to be included in a TPEG frame associated with a particular bounding area are selected based on the bounding area definitions. The TPEG frame is generated, and transmitted for broadcast in the particular bounding area.

Time-based adjustment of bounding area definitions

Travel-related-information messages (TRIMS) are received from one or more information sources, and information included in the messages is separated into a first (e.g. TPEG&#x2122;) or second (e.g. TPEG+) group. A broadcast area to which the information included in the TRIMs is to be broadcast is determined. A further determination indicates that a subset of information assigned to the first group is to be reassigned to the second group. The subset of information is reassigned from the first group to the second group based on parameters associated with the broadcast area. The information included in the first group and the second group is delivered to one or more processing modules that generate a first TRIM reporting message using information included in the first group and a second TRIM reporting message using information included in the second group.

Generation of travel-related reporting messages

A traffic information system generates a traffic information frame for selected roads within a broadcast area by receiving traffic information from a traffic data source, obtaining road vector definitions for one or more roads identified in the traffic information, associating the road vector definitions with longitude and latitude to link the traffic information to particular roads, creating a Transport Protocol Experts Group (TPEG) traffic message, including the traffic information and the one or more roads associated with the traffic information, obtaining bounding area definitions of bounding areas associated with the particular traffic incident, combining cached TPEG messages into a composite TPEG frame using the bounding area definitions and broadcasting the TPEG frame to at least a primary bounding area.

Creating transport protocol experts group frames

A system includes a processor configured to determine that transmission data indicates that first data was transmitted via a digital radio channel and that reception data indicates that second data was received via the digital radio channel. The first data is transmitted concurrently with transmission of an analog signal. The processor is configured to detect an error in transmission of the first data based on a comparison of adjacent portions of the first data to non-adjacent portions of the second data. The processor is configured to, in response to detecting the error, initiate display of a default image concurrently with output of an audio signal that is based on the analog signal and to initiate retransmission of the first data to cause second particular data to be output subsequent to the output of the default image. The second particular data corresponds to the retransmitted first data.

Digital radio channel error detection

A traffic information system includes a server-based media automation system configured to access a traffic system to provide mobile user access to traffic through the server-based media automation system. The system further includes a traffic data source configured to provide traffic data to the server-based media automation system and a traffic message server receiving traffic messages from the traffic data source, combining the traffic messages into a traffic frame using bounding area information. The system further includes a station importer receiving the traffic frame and creating separate streams for a plurality of high definition channels packaged and multiplexed with media data into high definition radio signals for transmission by a broadcast system and wherein the traffic frame excludes traffic messages associated with a primary bounding area and at least one sub-bounding area located within the primary bounding area based on road classifications.

Server-based system for primary bounding area transport protocol experts group frames

Travel-related-information messages (TRIMS) are received from one or more information sources, and information included in the messages is placed into a first (e.g. TPEG&#x2122;) or second (e.g. TPEG+) group. A determination is made that a first TRIM reporting message including information from the first group will exceed a permissible size, so excess information is removed from the first group and added to the second group, thereby decreasing the size of the first TRIM reporting message to the permissible message size or less. Some or all of the excess information removed from the first group is added to the second group. First and second TRIM reporting messages are generated from information included in the first and second groups. The first and second TRIM reporting messages are transmitted to end-user devices using different service ports.

Handling excess travel-related information

A traffic information system includes a server-based media automation system configured to access a traffic system to provide mobile user access to traffic through the server-based media automation system. The system further includes a traffic data source configured to provide traffic data to the server-based media automation system and a traffic message server receiving traffic messages from the traffic data source, combining the traffic messages into a traffic frame using bounding area information. The system further includes a station importer receiving the traffic frame and creating separate streams for a plurality of high definition channels packaged and multiplexed with media data into high definition radio signals for transmission by a broadcast system and wherein the traffic frame include traffic message with a primary bounding area and at least one sub-bounding area located within the primary bounding area based on road classifications.

A method includes determining, at a device, that transmission data indicates that first data was transmitted via a digital radio channel. The method also includes determining, at the device, that reception data indicates that second data was received via the digital radio channel. The first data has a first size that is less than a second size of the second data. The method also includes determining, at the device, whether an error occurred in transmission of the first data based on determining whether each of a plurality of portions of the first data is included at least once in the second data. Other aspects are also disclosed.

A method includes configuring a plurality of sub-bounding areas within a primary bounding area. An aggregate traffic message includes traffic information aggregated from the sub-bounding areas and is broadcast throughout the primary bounding area. The roads within the primary bounding area are associated with road classifications, and individual traffic messages associated with those roads are generated. Sub-bounding areas within the primary bounding area are associated with particular road classifications. Individual traffic messages (for particular roads) are selected for inclusion in the aggregate traffic message (broadcast over the primary bounding area) if those messages are associated with a road having a road classification that matches a road classification of a sub-bounding area in which the road is located. The aggregate traffic message is generated by combining the selected individual traffic messages and is transmitted to a station importer.

A method includes configuring a plurality of sub-bounding areas within a primary bounding area. An aggregate traffic message includes traffic information aggregated from the sub-bounding areas, and is broadcast throughout the primary bounding area. The roads within the primary bounding area are associated with road classifications, and individual traffic messages associated with those roads are generated. Sub-bounding areas within the primary bounding area are associated with particular road classifications. Individual traffic messages (for particular roads) are selected for inclusion in the aggregate traffic message (broadcast over the primary bounding area) if those messages are associated with a road having a road classification that matches a road classification of a sub-bounding area in which the road is located. The aggregate traffic message is generated by combining the selected individual traffic messages, and is transmitted to a station importer.
