An application environment including a hosting application, and an application component operative to execute a plurality of ordered processing operations, where the hosting application is operative to effect a first call to the component, thereby invoking operation of the component, the component is operative to execute any of the ordered processing operations in response to the first call until a suspense condition is met, whereupon the component is operative to suspend its operation, maintain execution state information, and return execution control to the hosting application, the hosting application is operative to resolve the suspense condition and effect a second call to the component, and the component is operative to determine whether the suspense condition is resolved and, if so, resume execution of the ordered processing operations from the point of suspension in response to the second call.

Cooperative software application architecture

A testing tool records a user session with a transactional server and generates a test for subsequently testing the server. Through a user interface of the testing tool, the user can define verification steps to automatically test for expected server responses during test execution. The test is displayed to the user as a tree having nodes which represent steps of the test. Via the user interface, the user can modify node properties and perform other types of tree edit operations to edit the test, without the need to know a scripting or other programming language. When a user selects a node that corresponds to a particular field or other object of the server screen, the testing tool automatically displays the screen with the object highlighted. The testing tool also allows the test author to use a spreadsheet to conveniently specify data sets for running multiple iterations of a test.

A mapping component scans a Web site over a network connection and builds a site map which graphically depicts the URLs and links of the site. Site maps are generated using a unique layout and display methodology which allows the user to visualize the overall architecture of the Web site. Various map navigation and URL filtering features are provided to facilitate the task of identifying and repairing common Web site problems, such as links to missing URLs. A dynamic page scan feature enables the user to include dynamically-generated Web pages within the site map by capturing the output of a standard Web browser when a form is submitted by the user, and then automatically resubmitting this output during subsequent mappings of the site. An Action Tracker module detects user activity and behavioral data (link activity levels, common site entry and exit points, etc.) from server log files and then superimposes such data onto the site map. A Load Wizard module uses this activity data to generate testing scenarios for load testing the Web site.
