A panel closure apparatus has a panel () for closing against a strike jamb (). A locking element () is displaceable between a released position and a locked position in which contact surfaces () of the locking element and the panel prevent opening of the panel, and are configured so that force applied to open the panel does not generate a force to disengage the locking element. Locking element () has an input surface () deployed so as to be displaced by an actuating surface () of panel () during a closing motion of the panel from the open position to the closed position. Input surface () moves as a unit with locking element () so that displacement of the input surface by the closing motion of the panel displaces the locking element towards the locked position.

Panel closure apparatus

An apparatus for locking a panel to a strike jamb includes a synchronous displacement mechanism associated with a locking element () which is responsive to part of a closing motion of a panel () from an open position towards a closed position to initiate a motion of locking element () towards the locked position during the closing motion of the panel prior to the panel reaching its closed position. The synchronous displacement mechanism preferably has a 'deadlock state' when the locking element is in the locked position which prevents displacement of the locking element towards the unlocked position.

Panel lock assembly

A latch arrangement for fastening a panel of a door or a window to a frame element is provided. The latch arrangement includes a locking element mounted on the frame element and displaceable between a locked position in which the locking element can be engaged with the panel locking thereby the panel to the frame element, and an unlocked position in which the locking element is disengaged from the panel unlocking thereby the panel from the frame element. An actuating mechanism, optionally including a manually operable handle, is mounted on the panel and configured to selectively engage the locking element and to displace the locking element to the unlocked position. Where a stop latch provides deadlock functionality, the panel-mounted actuating mechanism preferably sequentially releases the stop latch and then displaces the locking element.

The latch arrangement includes a locking element pivotally mounted on the frame element and displaceable between a locked position in which the locking element is engaged with the depression of the panel locking thereby the panel to the frame element, and an unlocked position in which the locking element is disengaged from the depression of the panel unlocking thereby the panel from the frame element, a stop latch selectively deployable to secure the locking element in the locked position, precluding thereby displacement of the locking element to the unlocked position; and an actuating mechanism configured to selectively pivot the locking element away from the depression to the unlocked position.

A latch arrangement for fastening a panel of a door or a window to a frame element, the panel including a depression is provided. A sliding door includes a panel configured to slide along a path; a holding member including an abutting portion and defining a channel configured for receiving therein at least a segment of the panel; and a stop member being displaceable between an engaged state in which a first end of the stop member engages the abutting portion and a second end of the stop member engages the segment thereby precluding sliding of the panel in a direction away from the holding member and a disengaged state in which the stop member allows sliding of the panel.

An apparatus includes a panel swingably mounted relative to a frame, and a locking element supported by a support arrangement. The support arrangement supports the locking element relative to the frame so as to be displaceable between a locked position in which at least part of the locking element is interposed between a pressure surface of the panel and a contact surface of the frame, thereby locking the panel to the frame, and an unlocked position. The support arrangement defines a path of motion of the locking element from an unlocked position to the locked position in which at least a terminal part of the path of motion is in a direction obliquely angled relative to a plane of closure of the panel within the frame.

A door or window assembly includes an opening bounded by a frame including a hinge jamb (). A panel () is hung relative to the hinge jamb via a hinge arrangement () so as to swing between an open position and a closed position. An engagement configuration includes a ledge () located in fixed relation to the hinge jamb, and a flange () rigidly associated with the panel. The engagement configuration allows me panel to swing freely between open and closed positions. In the closed position, the flange () is brought into facing relation with the ledge () such that force directed to displace the panel () within the plane of closure away from the hinge jamb () acts to bring the flange into engagement with the ledge.

A door or window arrangement has a panel movable relative to an opening bounded by a frame so as to close against a strike jamb or move away from it. A locking element moves between a locked state in which it engages between the panel and the strike jamb to prevent separation of the panel from the strike jamb and a released state in which the panel can be separated from the strike jamb. A linkage is displaced by a terminal part of a closing motion of the panel so that completion of the closing motion can only occur when the locking element assumes its locked state. Preferably, the linkage is deployed so that force applied to displace the panel through the terminal part of the closing motion results in a force applied to the locking element to displace it towards its locked state.

A latch arrangement for fastening a panel of a door or a window to a frame element is provided. The latch arrangement includes a locking element mounted on the frame element and displaceable between a locked position in which the locking element can be engaged with a depression formed on the panel locking thereby the panel to the frame element, and an unlocked position in which the locking element can be disengaged from the depression on the panel unlocking thereby the panel from the frame element; an actuating mechanism including a manually operable handle, the actuating mechanism being mounted on the panel and being configured to selectively engage the locking element and to displace the locking element away from the depression to the unlocked position.

A closure includes a panel closing against a frame. A set of abutment surfaces for supporting the panel against applied forces is completed by a displaceable abutment block which selectively assumes an engaged state disposed between an abutment surface of the panel and an abutment surface of a strike jamb. The geometry of engagement is such that forces acting on the abutment block opposing opening of the panel are primarily compressive forces. Certain implementations additionally, or alternatively, employ abutment blocks for locking along the lintel or the threshold of the opening.
