An intravaginal support apparatus. The intravaginal support apparatus comprises a pessary ring having a substantially annular configuration and a narrowed configuration, a locking mechanism which retains and switches between the annular configuration and the narrowed configuration, and one or more expandable elements having expanded and unexpanded configurations, attached to one or more of the locking mechanism and the pessary ring. The pessary ring laterally expands from the narrowed configuration to the annular configuration; the expandable element expands outwardly of the pessary ring, from the unexpanded configuration to the expanded configuration.

Apparatuses and methods of intravaginal support and/or distension

Apparatus and methods are described, including apparatus for treating a cavity in a human body, the apparatus including a delivery tube. A bather device has a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, the barrier device moving from the collapsed configuration to the expanded configuration upon being deployed from the delivery tube. A pushing element, slidably disposed within a lumen of the delivery tube, is configured to deploy the barrier device from the delivery tube by pushing the bather device. One or more bather-deployment elements are coupled to the barrier device and to the pushing element, the bather-deployment elements being configured to conformingly contact the barrier device with tissue surrounding the cavity. Other applications are also described.

Treatment of cavities in a human body

Apparatus and methods are described, including apparatus for treating a cavity in a human body, the apparatus including a delivery tube. A barrier device has a collapsed and an expanded configuration, the barrier device moving from the collapsed to the expanded configuration upon being deployed from the delivery tube. A pushing element, slidably disposed within a lumen of the delivery tube, deploys the barrier device from the delivery tube by pushing the barrier device. One or more barrier-deployment elements are coupled to the barrier device and to the pushing element, the barrier-deployment elements being configured to conformingly contact the barrier device with tissue surrounding the cavity. The barrier device is configured to isolate the cavity from surrounding body fluid that is between the barrier device and the pushing element, following deployment of the barrier device from the delivery tube. Other applications are also described.

An apparatus for treating urinary incontinence, comprising: (a) a support section adapted for providing urethral support; (b) an anchoring section adapted for resisting movement of the apparatus; (c) a normally open expansion mechanism adapted to urge the support radially outwards; and (d) a conversion mechanism adapted to sharply and selectively reduce an outward urging of said support.

Management of urinary incontinence in females

Disclosed are devices for supporting a prolapsed organ. An exemplary device comprises a ring-like body optionally having a naturally occurring substantially flat and substantially planar compact configuration, the ring-like body configured with a size suitable for insertion into a vagina and to be expanded by a support element such that in the expanded configuration an outer periphery of the ring-like body contacts a portion of the vagina and stretches at least a portion of a prolapsed vaginal wall, thereby substantially alleviating prolapse of at least one pelvic organ. The device optionally includes a support element comprising two moveably connected arms configured to support the ring in the expanded configuration.

Pessaries for prolapse alleviation

Disclosed is a female urinary incontinence-inhibiting device comprising a flexible torus including at least one slot configured to, under compression, flexibly reduce the outer diameter of the flexible torus, the flexible torus having a diameter configured to inhibit female urinary incontinence when placed in a vagina and a stabilizing element, coupled to the flexible torus, the stabilizing element having a size and position configured to stabilize the flexible torus within the vagina.

Female urinary incontinence devices

An apparatus for amelioration of incontinence in a female subject. The apparatus comprises a stiffenable ring adapted for intra-vaginal insertion and a stabilizing extension, projecting axially from the stiffenable ring, the stabilizing extension having a size and position configured to stabilize the stiffenable ring within the vagina.

Adjustable tension ring for amelioration of urinary incontinence in females

There is provided a device for measuring an inside shape of a vagina, including a device body, operationally connected to one or more movable cheeks, the cheeks movable in a direction substantially transaxially relative to the device body longitudinal axis, and a width indicator, for indicating a distance between opposite faces of the cheeks. There is provided a method for fitting a pessary including inserting a Pessary Caliber (PC) into a vagina, extending cheeks of the PC to press against sides of the vagina, measuring a distance between the cheeks, measuring how deep the PC is inserted into the vagina, and selecting a pessary size based, at least in part, on the measuring. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

Device and method for fitting a pessary

A compression assembly for use in compressing tissue comprising a first portion which includes a first compression element and a second portion which comprises a second compression element, at least one support element, and at least one spring element. Typically the spring element is formed of a shape-memory material. The at least one spring element is in compressive force contact with the second compression element and the tissue to be joined is positioned between the first and second compression elements. A plurality of needles on one of the support elements is operative to pierce the tissue and the first portion of the assembly, holding the first compression element to the second portion of the assembly. The invention is appropriate for joining severed tissue in anastomosis procedures or closing natural or surgically produced tissue perforations.

Compression assemblies and applicators for use therewith

A surgical clip assembly which includes a pair of generally linear compression elements for securing tissue between them and for applying to the secured tissue a compression force. The clip assembly has an initial, open position in which the linear compression elements may be positioned about tissue to be secured between them. The assembly also has a final, closed position where the compression elements are substantially parallel to each other, applying a compressive force to the secured tissue. The clip assembly also includes a force means disposed between the pair of compression elements and operative to transmit operational forces between them.

Surgical compression clips

A system including surgical compression clips is described and used for endoscopic full thickness resection. Similarly, methods for endoscopic full thickness resection using the described system are also discussed. Surgical compression clips using shape-memory elements are discussed. These clips are advanceable to the site of suspect tissue to be resected through a lumen of a multi-lumen sleeve encasing an endoscope. At the site of the tissue, the compression clip is opened and operated to circumscribe the suspect tissue. Grasper assemblies, advanceable through an endoscope, are also described. These latter grasp and bring the suspect tissue to the open clip. The clip is then closed and the tissue resected. The clip effects necrosis and healing at the resected site.
