To satisfy the application requirement to meet a high data rate and obtain a large coverage in an optical wireless communication system, an optical wireless communication, OWC, transmitter () is disclosed in the present invention. The OWC transmitter () comprises a first light source () configured to emit a first optical data signal () in a first field-of-view, FoV (); and a second light source () configured to emit a second optical data signal () in a second FoV (). The first light source () and the second light source () are of different types, and the first FoV () is wider than the second FoV (). The OWC transmitter () is configured to emit the first optical data signal () via the first light source () and to emit the second optical data signal () via the second light source () simultaneously.

Hybrid optical transmitter for high speed optical wireless communication

To satisfy the application requirement to meet a high data rate and obtain a large coverage in an optical wireless communication system, an optical front-end subsystem () is disclosed in the present invention. The optical front-end subsystem () comprises a first photodiode () with a first active surface area and a second photodiode () with a second active surface area, wherein the second active surface area is larger than the first active surface area. Depending on the received signal strength, either the branch with the first photodiode () or the branch with the second photodiode () is selected to provide an output signal of the optical front-end subsystem (). Receiver diversity is achieved by making use of the first photodiode to support high speed communication and the second photodiode to support large coverage communication.

Receiving system for high speed and large coverage optical wireless communication

An LED module () comprising: a first set of LEDs (D) for emitting illumination to illuminate an environment, arranged within a first circuit path; a second set of one or more LEDs (D) for emitting light, arranged within a second circuit path; both the first and second sets being powered by a portion of the power received via a same pair of input terminals, and the first circuit path being longer than the second circuit path; and filter circuitry () arranged to filter a modulation in the power received via the terminals, the filtering comprising allowing a component of the modulation at a predetermined modulation frequency to be passed only to the second set of LEDs (D) and not the first set (D), thereby causing a corresponding signal to be embedded in the light emitted by the second set but not in the illumination emitted by the first set.
