We disclose an ultrawide-band (USB) dual polarization three-dimensional (3D) tapered aperture Vivaldi antenna. It is generally comprised of a radiator having two pairs of tapering arms, each pair corresponding to a different polarization and the tapering arms spaced thereof closest to one another at a feed point location of the antenna and taper outwardly in opposite directions, thus forming a 3D Vivaldi antenna aperture therebetween; and a dual feed balun connecting to each of the two pairs of tapering arms and providing a separate channel for each of the polarizations. Embodiments of our antenna have been designed and simulated using full-wave electromagnetics commercial software. The results for our antennas demonstrate over 20:1 operating bandwidth with good radiation characteristics and very low cross polarization.

Ultrawide-band dual polarization three-dimensional tapered aperture Vivaldi antenna

A highly-conformal, pliable thin electromagnetic (EM) skin for altering at least one electromagnetic property of a surface includes a pliable thin film, and sub-wavelength elements incorporated into and/or on the pliable thin film which are smaller in scale than the wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation they are intended to influence. The electromagnetic skin readily conforms to contours of a surface to which it attaches or otherwise adheres to. Such electromagnetic skin can be used to cover various surface and platforms on equipment, walls, vehicles, and aircraft to change the electromagnetic properties of such surfaces to achieve certain functions that are not achievable with simple ground plane surfaces. The EM skin may be judiciously configured to alter at least one electromagnetic property of the surface by blocking, absorbing, enhancing, and/or bending waves of electromagnetic radiation.

Highly-conformal, pliable thin electromagnetic skin

A multi-band antenna includes an S-band substrate; an S-band annular ring on the S-band substrate; an X-band substrate in the S-band substrate; and an X-band patch located in a center of the S-band annular ring and on the X-band substrate. The S-band annular ring includes a first upper surface, the X-band patch includes a second upper surface, and the first upper surface is planar with the second upper surface. The multi-band antenna includes a second pair of concentric patch antennas arranged in an annular configuration and stacked on the first pair of antennas. The second pair of antennas are placed on the same substrate and are electromagnetically coupled to the first pair of antennas to provide an extended bandwidth capability.

An antenna array comprising a plurality of concentric low frequency elements, where each low frequency element circumscribes a first high frequency element; and a plurality of second high frequency elements interleaved with the plurality of concentric low frequency elements to maintain optimal electrical spacing between both the low frequency elements and the high frequency elements at two disparate frequencies.

Concentric, co-located and interleaved dual band antenna array

A nanofabric antenna is provided. The nanofabric antenna can include a fabric and a plurality of conductive nanowires extending outwardly from the fabric with the conductive nanowires forming a random array of monopoles. In this manner, an antenna can be included as part of a piece of clothing and/or a piece of fabric used or worn by an individual.

Nanofabric antenna

A radio frequency patch antenna having a radiator patch constructed of an anisotropic material, such as carbon nanotube sheet material. Such material is flexible so that the antenna may be wearable and/or integrated into a textile substrate. A feed line couples the radio signal to the patch. Furthermore, the efficiency of radiation from the patch is directly related to the orientation of the fibers or carbon nanotubes in the anisotropic material relative to the orientation of the feed line. Dual polarized radiators can be constructed from two orthogonal layers of CNT patches fed with correspondingly orthogonal feed lines.

Radio frequency anisotropic patch antenna and polarization selective surface

An antenna having an elongated housing open at one end and defining an interior chamber. A telescoping mast has a carrier attached at a first end and a flexible antenna attached at its other end. The carrier with the attached mast and antenna is movable between a storage position in which the carrier, mast, and antenna are contained within the interior chamber of the housing, and a deployed position in which the mast and attached antenna protrude outwardly from the housing. A spring is positioned between the carrier and the housing which urges the carrier towards its deployed position. A catch mechanism selectively holds the carrier in its stored position and, when released, releases the spring to move the antenna to its deployed position.

The waveguide/coplanar waveguide (CPW) transition assembly includes an electronic component coupled to the CPW, and control circuitry operationally coupled with the electronic component. Portions of the control circuitry at least partially extend from outside of the at least some peripheral walls to within the at least some peripheral walls.

Compact Rotman lens using metamaterials

A reconfigurable polarization antenna includes a microwave dielectric substrate having a ground plane that has a centrally located slot with five conducting patches, four of which form an evenly spaced apart perimeter group with a gap between each and the fifth, centrally positioned conducting patch. A conducting pad is positioned in each gap and is connected via a switch to the ground plane. A microstrip feed line including a short stub is positioned on the opposite side of the substrate and electromagnetically coupled to the slot. The polarization of the antenna is reconfigured by a selection of an on or off state of each of said switches.
